**Job summary**:

- These roles sit at the heart of the UK Governments policy-making on international data flows and at the intersection of data policy and digital diplomacy. Work within this team focuses on balancing the development and implementation of UK data transfer policy to reduce barriers to international data flows, with upholding and driving the adoption of high standards of data protection and privacy internationally. This drives the UK’s pro-growth agenda and is also vitally important to the UK’s diplomatic and security partnerships.**Job description**:
**Policy Advisors (UK Transfer Mechanisms) x2**

These roles would suit someone who has experience and/or an interest in developing expertise within a technical policy area, utilising analytical skills to drive evidence-based policy-making in an international context. You can expect to:

- Lead aspects of UK adequacy assessments of specific countries and/or alternative transfer mechanisms
- Collaborate with international partners, other Government departments, industry stakeholders and the UK Information Commissioner's Office to drive a joined-up approach to delivery
- Take a leading role in delivering considered and balanced policy recommendations to Ministers
- Lead elements of engagement with international partners and support an exciting and dynamic policy area.

**Policy Advisor (Strategy, Impact & Policy) x1**

This is an exciting role, working collaboratively to shape and deliver policy for the international data transfers team. Your work will:

- Develop and implement policy regarding international data transfers between the UK and international partners, with focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
- Build our evidence base regarding the benefits, challenges and risks of international data transfers.
- Collaborate with international partners, other Government departments, industry stakeholders and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
- Lead on communications, engagement opportunities (such as visits) and governance processes to support the international data transfers team.

**Person specification**:
**Essential requirements**:

- Good judgement and political understanding, such as an understanding of how work overlaps with wider departmental and Governmental priorities.
- Analytical skills and attention to detail - an ability to use complex evidence to provide analysis and develop nuanced policy positions on potentially sensitive issues.
- Written and oral communication skills - the ability to engage individuals and summarise complex and often sensitive issues.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and projects, and deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.

**Desirable skills**:

- Expertise in data protection, data policy, national security policy or digital economy, and the intersection of these cross-cutting areas.
- Familiarity with the UK’s regulatory framework for personal data
- Experience in international policy and engagement, with strong intercultural understanding.
- Strategy and policy development experience.
