Experienced Interpreters Required
Please note that currently Cintra only registers interpreters for the police sector with a level 6 interpreting qualification (eg Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, Diploma in Police Interpreting), or with a language related degree. NPPV3 security clearance is mandatory for police work.
**About us**:
With 20 years’ experience as a language services agency with an excellent reputation, we have direct contracts with a number of police forces in the Midlands and East Anglia for interpreting and translation services. We also supply linguists to courts and tribunals and have many major clients in the public sector (including probation, NHS, local government) and in the business sector. We’re looking to recruit more interpreters to service our existing and new police force clients.
**Job role**:
You will be performing freelance law sector interpreting, face to face, in a range of settings including the police forces (interviewing suspects, obtaining statements from witnesses), courts, probation and for solicitors. Note: Interpreting work in the police sector could occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, usually at short notice (e.g. 2 hours or less).
**‘Freelance’**:
Means you will be registered with us on a self-employed basis and can decide your hours of work, travel distance and number of assignments you take to suit your lifestyle. We can’t guarantee the amount of work we may offer you.
- Interpreting experience in the criminal justice sector, particularly in police work.
- Knowledge of police procedures and common criminal offences.
- NPPV3 security clearance
and
- An advanced level interpreting qualification such as a Diploma in Public Services Interpreting (DPSI), a Diploma in Police Interpreting (DPI), a language degree with an interpreting component; or
- Membership of the National Register of Public Services Interpreters (NRPSI), National Register of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people (NRCPD), Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) or Institute of Interpreting and Translating (ITI)
If you are interested in police sector work, you will need to have Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level (NPPV) 3. You can obtain an NPPV3 through us.
**Benefits of joining Cintra**:
Our registered interpreters
- can attend our continuing professional development courses (many free of charge)
- are fully supported by us before, during and after the interpreting assignment
- have access to our debriefing and counselling services
**Pay**:
For police interpreting, we pay interpreting time (with enhancements for unsocial hours), travel time, and mileage/public transport expenses.
