Publicity Assistant, Penguin Press
Are you curious about the media and up to date on trends and current affairs? We’re looking for a proactive and exceptionally organised Publicity Assistant to join Penguin Press on a full-time and permanent basis.
**About Penguin Press**
Penguin Press publishes serious and ground-breaking non-fiction across our Allen Lane, Pelican and Particular Books imprints, with bestselling authors such as Carlo Rovelli, Lea Ypi, Michio Kaku, Naomi Klein, Ha-Joon Chang, Isabel Wilkerson and Greta Thunberg. Press is also home to the world-famous Penguin Classics library.
**The opportunity**
Reporting to the Publicity Director, the Publicity Assistant will act as the first point of contact for incoming queries and be responsible for the smooth running of the department through administrative duties.
Responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining databases and catalogue mailings
- Sending out seasonal press releases and weekly web bulletins to journalists
- Managing and responding to queries coming into the Publicity inbox
- Liaising with teams across the company, including Editorial, Production and Sales
- Organising office mailings and bookshelves
- Managing diaries and schedules
- Booking author travel and accommodation and helping to arrange and attend events.
**What you’ll bring**
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive team player with excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills. You don’t need previous publishing experience; you’ll need to be keenly interested in a variety of forms of media, comfortable with technology and using MS Office, and it’s important you’re able to prioritise under pressure.
You’ll need to have meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and networking skills as you will be communicating regularly with teams across the company. Importantly, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment, come to work eager and ready to learn, and have an enthusiasm for the books published by Penguin Press.
**How to apply**
**What you can expect from us**:
**Salary**: You‘ll start on £26,500. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role to reflect your growing contribution.
PRH is currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. While our offices are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing.
For this role, there are regular meetings and activities occurring on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday that you will need to attend in person mainly at our office in Pimlico. Outside of these moments, you may choose to work remotely
Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:
- 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
- Medical cover
- Life assurance
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Discounted gym membership
- Generous pension scheme
- Summer working hours (role dependent)
- Volunteering policy and charity matching
- Employee Assistance programme
- Mentoring programme
- Extended gender neutral parental leave
- Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
- Each site has trained mental health first aiders
- We plant a tree for every new employee to our business
**Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.**
Please note, we are not able to accept agency CVs for this role. Any CVs sent speculatively will not be eligible for a fee.
