London, United Kingdom Penguin Books Limited Full time

Looking for a part-time role within a busy, creative art department?

We have an exciting opportunity for a **Picture Researcher** to join our Penguin Press Art Department to cover a 12-month period of parental leave. This opportunity is offered a part-time basis, working 3.5 days week.

**The role**

Reporting to the Picture Editor, and joining a wider Art Department of 10 people, you’ll carry out image research, licensing and administrative duties within the team, connecting with others in the Art Department and Penguin Press teams. The role will include researching and exploring a wide range of picture sources to select images, clearing copyright and permissions, maintaining databases and writing captions. You’ll get to work across all the imprints within the Penguin Press division, including Penguin Classics, Pelican, Particular Books, Modern Classics and Allen Lane titles.

You don’t need to have any experience within book publishing, but you will have proven experience in picture research and an understanding of copyright law applied to licensing images. You’ll be knowledgeable about art, photographic history and contemporary practice and will have a strong interest in literature, history and current affairs to engage with the books you’ll be working on.

You’ll have good written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent attention to detail.

**About Penguin Press**

Press is one of Penguin Random House’s nine publishing houses, and comprises Allen Lane, Pelican, Particular Books and the world-famous Penguin Classics library.

Home to serious and groundbreaking non-fiction in hardback and paperback, plus the extended family of classic fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama, we have established a reputation for books that bring new ideas to readers and represent the best in editorial and design standards.

Our authors include Naomi Klein, Claudia Rankine, Bernie Sanders, Mariana Mazzucato, Carlo Rovelli and Fareed Zakaria. Recently published into Penguin Classics are works by Brigitte Reimann, Tove Ditlevsen and Yukio Mishima. This role will be working on campaigns across the breadth of Penguin Press.
