**Contract**: Term time only (38 weeks per year) Temporary for duration of apprenticeship - approx. 15 months

**Purpose of the role**
To work under the instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher but may be working with small groups or one to one with pupils to support access to learning. This will include general support, classroom supervision and the implementation of structured intervention programmes alongside other professionals.
A key part of the role as an apprentice is to develop the skills required to be able to perform the role of a Qualified Teaching Assistant. This will involve completion of the Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent.
**Main Duties**
- Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters
- Supervise and support pupils, both individually and in small groups, ensuring their safety and access to learning
- Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- Encourage pupils to understand instructions and act independently as appropriate
- Prepare classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards and assist with the display of pupil’s work
- Be aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed.
- Undertake pupil record keeping e.g. recording assessments as requested
- Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate
- Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed
- Provide clerical/administrative support - photocopying, typing, filing etc.
- Support pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies - literacy, numeracy, early years, as directed by the teacher
- Support pupils in using basic ICT as directed
- Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist pupils in their use
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes
- Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
- Any other duties commensurate with the post
**Special Conditions of Service**
- The postholder will be expected to complete the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools as part of their Apprenticeship contract.
- There may be a need to occasionally work outside of school hours and off school premises, as required by the school
- No smoking policy
**General Responsibilities**
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, training and briefings as appropriate
- Be aware of, and comply with all Academy policies and procedures, in particular those relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection
- Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.

Woodkirk Academy is a member of Leodis Academies Trust with a number of local schools and as such the postholder may be required to attend training at, or work occasionally across other sites in the future.
**Training and Development**
The postholder will be expected to complete the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools as part of their Apprenticeship contract.
