We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual for an exciting new role as B7 critical care physiotherapist and team leader at City Hospital. Critical care physiotherapy is nested within a wider team including cardiothoracics and surgery. The team leader role will cover all these areas; some clinical cross-cover will be required at times.

Team leadership will include supporting the team to offer high-quality patient care through monitoring performance, supporting supervision and development conversations, and ensuring they have the resources and equipment required for their roles.

We are a friendly and welcoming team, with an emphasis on personal development and positive staff experience. You will work closely with critical care colleagues at QMC as well as City Hospital. On the job development includes peer support from B7s across the wider acute inpatients team, plus support from the critical care Clinical Lead, and Therapy Services Manager through supervision, informal mentoring and appraisal.

Main duties of the job

Lead the physiotherapy service in a growing speciality and provide a responsive respiratory service to acutely unwell patients when required.

Provide a supportive and learning environment for team members under your direct management, including undertaking annual appraisals and managing health and wellbeing.

Contribute to the education and teaching of students, preceptees and therapy assistant staff, including training new staff for the weekend and respiratory roster when required.

Lead and participate in the weekend respiratory service at City Campus of NUH which incorporates Respiratory Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Cardio-Thoracic surgery, General Surgery & Critical Care.

Alongside the wider inpatient team, support the management of and participation in late shifts, weekend and out of hours service.

Ensure that high quality, evidenced based practice, service development and education underpin the service delivery.

Ensure that NUH values and behaviours are embedded in everyday practice

Our dedicated physiotherapy team is keen to make service improvements across a wide variety of inpatient specialties, providing a supportive and educational environment that encourages all members to reach their full potential. Band 7 development is supported by therapy service management team and clinical specialists, with excellent B7 peer support. We are excited that Therapies and Rehabilitation has appointed its first consultant AHP and we are working hard to broaden and develop career pathways including clinical academics.

This post will allow a physiotherapist with a keen interest in team leadership and inpatient care to expand clinical skills and leadership of a busy and responsive service, with a focus on leading and developing staff to support patient flow whilst promoting excellent patient care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Permanent 37.5 hours Band 7 post

Core hours are worked Monday to Friday, 8:00 - 16:00

Additional duties will include participation in on call and weekend working as well as a late shift (1-9PM). These are rostered approximately 1-2 per month but many increase depending on clinical need.
