Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic physiotherapist to join the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) team at NUH as a Band 7 team leader. This permanent post is based at Nottingham City Hospital.

We are looking for an experienced band 6 or a current band 7 physiotherapist with a broad respiratory skill set, a passion for service development/improvement, strong leadership and management skills and the clinical skills to treat CF and other chronic respiratory illnesses. You will be working alongside an experienced Highly Specialist CF physiotherapist to co-lead the development of an ever-changing service. Therefore, excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential.

You will treat patients with CF and other chronic respiratory conditions in the ward setting, as well as reviewing CF patients in a clinic setting. You will work flexibly to cover inpatient, outpatient and community need, and therefore a full driving licence with access to a car is also required.

You will work closely with the wider MDT to develop complex and structured patient care plans as well as progressing your skills in areas of advanced clinical practice such as lung function and test doses of nebulised therapy.

You will also contribute to the wider inpatient respiratory physiotherapy team and its out of hours service. You will have opportunities for development within Therapies through regular training and peer/line management supervision, and close MDT working with the CF unit.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the CF team in through leadership and service development. Due to recent medication changes, the patient dynamic is fluid and the service is going through an exciting time of change/transformation. You will therefore assist in both clinical and non-clinical aspects of leadership, management and service development. Providing a supportive learning environment for team members under your direct management. This includes undertaking annual appraisals and managing health and wellbeing. Contributing to the education and teaching of students, preceptees and unregistered staff, including training new staff for weekend and respiratory rosters when required. Leading and participating in the weekend respiratory service to Medicine, Surgery and Critical Care areas and ensuring timely intervention for therapy-dependant discharges is met. Ensuring that high quality, evidenced based practice, service development and education underpin the service delivery. Leading by example, embedding NUH's values and behaviours in everyday practice.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 800 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists.
