More detail about the role: An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Clinical Coding department at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for 3 committed and enthusiastic individuals to join us as Trainee Clinical Coders to collect, collate, analyse, and translate complex medical patient care records into diagnostic and procedural codes. Due to the implementation of the Trusts full Electronic Patient Record, Epic, we are now able to support agile/hybrid working with most of the Team having the opportunity to work remotely.
There is a dedicated Coding office available at both our Eastern and Northern sites should you prefer office working and for trainee coders you will be required to work from the office whilst you undertake training but there will be opportunities to work from home during this period. The Clinical Coding Team is responsible for the extraction and translation of Inpatient Clinical information using the ICD-10 and OPCS Coding Classifications. This information is essential for the effective management of the Trust and crucial to the National Tariff Payment System that underpins Trust income. Coded data is also important for clinical audit, governance and research.
The role requires you to be methodical, have excellent analytical skills and be able to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail during prolonged periods of concentration. Having good verbal and written communication skills will help you when engaging with clinical staff to improve coding quality. Applications for a Trainee Clinical Coder: Will be considered if you can demonstrate the aforementioned skills, are computer literate, have interest in Healthcare and possess a good knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Through self-directed study and supported training, managed and delivered by our Clinical Coding Trainer.
