Liverpool, United Kingdom Daisy Inclusive UK Full time

Daisy Inclusive UK are a charity that helps disabled people and their families across Merseyside to reach their true potential.

**Smile Initiative - Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund**

The SMILE initiative which stands for Self-Motivation, Inclusive Learning and Enrichment will be the catalyst to make a real difference in helping the disabled and vulnerable people we support live a more fulfilled and independent life.

The SMILE initiative will focus on 3 key links: - self motivation, independent living/ inclusive learning and enrichment with each link being designed to improve the future prospects, skills and health and well-being of the participants involved.

**Self-Motivation** - Encouraging participants to be happy in their own skin and happy with who they are. We will support individuals to improve their confidence and self-esteem, make friends and feel empowered to take ownership in their lives.

**Independent Living/Inclusive Learning **- Supporting individuals to reach their true potential. Working with our Independent Living Co-ordinator and Inclusive Development Officer participants will gain life skills, independence, qualifications and work experience that will help them on their journey to reach their aspirations and targets.

**Enrichment** - Enrichment activities including sports and physical activity, health and wellbeing and music will be the catalyst to helping participants to feel fit in body and fit in mind. We want to ensure that participants also have the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing as this will go a long way to help their future development.

**Independent Living Co-ordinator**

We aim to empower participants to live as independently as possible by teaching them everyday life skills that can help them take ownership of their own lives. The Independent Living Co-ordinator will actively encourage participants to ensure the progression of their personal development, we will support participants to learn everyday tasks including learning to prepare and cook their own meals, washing their clothes, budgeting and managing money and using assistive technology that can enhance their quality of life.

Using our TIME initiative (travel, independence, mobility and empowerment) we will improve beneficiaries’ confidence in travelling independently. One of the biggest challenges to disabled and vulnerable people is travelling independently. This could be using public transport or simply walking around their local community. Barriers can include a lack of confidence or fear of travelling on public transport or being able to find their way to and from their destination. Through learning to plan and map their journey they can start to feel more confident and know that in the future this will help them to further their development and will also be a key way in combating isolation and loneliness. We will work with individuals to break down these barriers, to build up their confidence and to give them the skills and tools required to travel independently.

Main Responsibilities:

- Supporting disabled and vulnerable adults to become more independent.
- Run workshops/Training in independent living.
- Complete personal development plans that track participants progress
- To supervise, mentor and guide assistant support workers and volunteers.
- To be responsible for completing and returning all relevant information including a register of participants, feedback questionnaires etc.
- To be aware and comply with all relevant Health and Safety regulations and work procedures as highlighted by your supervisor.
- To work alongside key members of staff in the delivery of this initiative
