**About the team**:
The Payroll team is based in central Bristol. The team is responsible for the production of weekly and four weekly payrolls and pension submissions for GWR, TransPennine Trains, Hull Trains and Heathrow Express. The team process all payroll data and assist with the resolution of payroll related queries from staff and external organisations.

**About the job**:
Lead and direct the daily operation of the payroll function to provide a high-quality payroll and personnel systems service to GWR and HEx. Protect the integrity of Payroll and information systems within the department.

**Your main responsibilities will be**:

- Lead and direct the payroll operations function to provide an efficient payroll service to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Manage and control of Payroll System and associated systems to ensure the time critical objectives are achieved and that robust processes and controls are maintained and measured.
- Responsible for the control of end-to-end payroll processing, from time and attendance to BACS transmissions and reporting to HMRC.
- Advise on general T&Cs of employment, pay, salary increments, promotion and transfer arrangements.
- Comply with the Group's control procedures, ensuring that all forms, changes, and requests adhere to the company delegated authority.
- Responsible for the daily management of 5 payroll team members, including regular 1-2-1's, training, and other HR matters as they arise.
- Assess, monitor and act on the training and development requirements of the payroll team.
- Support Payroll Manager with payroll development projects as required.
- Ad-hoc work as required by senior management from time to time.

**You'll need to be**:

- Experienced in end-to-end payroll and strong knowledge of payroll legislations.
- CIPP/QBE Payroll practitioner
- Strong IT excel and numeracy skills
- High integrity with strong communication and management skills
- Professional, confident and act with a high level of integrity at all times
- Proven management experience

**As a minimum you'll need to have**:

- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a payroll supervisory role

**Working Pattern**:
Monday to Friday (Hybrid working - with minimum of 3 days in the payroll office).
