- Job description- We’re seeking passionate and motivated individuals to lead the Microbiology-Molecular team (two positions) and the Metals team (one position) at the Starcross Laboratory in Devon.
You will be leading larger teams of around 14-22 analysts involved in the data production to support the Environment Agency’s drive to create a better place for us all. Key areas include:

- Ensuring your team are aware of and comply with our operational and organisational policies and procedures
- Looking after staff health, safety, and welfare
- Working with Technical Specialists to develop staff into multi-disciplinary analytical professionals
- Creating a team which delivers flexibly, including the move to Net Zero by 2030
- Delivering a work environment which promotes inclusivity and enables all staff to feel safe and valued
- Delivering the analytical services within specification and with a view to future developments.

Finally, responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- You’ll lead the Microbiology-Molecular team (two positions) or the Metals team (one position) and be part of the Site Management Team. Reporting to Laboratory Site Manager, you’ll be part of the wider Monitoring Laboratories Team.
You’ll lead large and diverse teams of Starcross based analysts, bringing together significant technical know-how across several scientific disciplines.
You must be able to work on your own initiative, while maintaining effective communication with the team and customers.

As a strong leader, with the ability to be versatile and coach your team, you’ll deliver the array of analytical and non-analytical tasks owned by your team within an ISO17025 environment. In addition, the ability to influence and work collaboratively with all partners will be key, as well as ensuring a strong focus on health, safety and wellbeing, performance, and delivery.
Relevant work experience would be an advantage; however demonstration of these skills will be important:

- Managing and prioritising complex work streams through others
- Coaching and leading a team to meet changing situations and pressures
- Delivery work to a high standard, in a safe manner
- Comfortable in making risk-based decisions
- Comfortable working in a hybrid working environment.
