Monitoring Laboratories are part of the National Monitoring Team in Operations. We play a key role in delivering the Environment Agency’s vision by providing environmental evidence to underpin decisions made at national and local levels. We operate from 3 laboratory sites with chemistry and microbiology labs in Exeter and Leeds and a specialist fish health laboratory in Brampton.
To achieve our outcomes, we procure significant volumes of goods each year. A role has arisen as part of the team who undertake this purchasing activity. You will work alongside other team members who procure millions of pounds of items each year for both Monitoring Laboratories and wider National Monitoring teams.
Your role will include:

- Placing orders on our Single Operating Platform (SOP) procurement system, following all the necessary procedures
- Receipting of goods and ensuring invoices are paid promptly.
- Raising variable purchase orders and tracking spend against these.
- Placing procurement card orders where SOP cannot be used and completing statements in a timely manner.
- Keeping teams updated on the progress of their orders.
- Processing recharges
- Overseeing the orders being placed across the team and ensuring all requests to the shared inbox are resolved.
- Ensuring all information related to procurement is filed in an organised manner and in compliance with EA policies and procedures.

- The team 1- You will be part of the Monitoring Laboratories team based in Starcross laboratory in Exeter. Although based in Starcross, your work is national across our teams and will also include activities for our other labs in Brampton and Leeds as well as supporting other teams within the wider National Monitoring directorate.
You will link up with colleagues in SSCL and finance teams to deliver your outcomes as well as communicating with our suppliers.
- Experience/skills required 1 Have worked in similar procurement support roles, ideally having experience of working with SOP.
- Experience of working with suppliers to manage orders and invoicing.
- Be well organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable managing your own workload with multiple tasks to deliver to varying deadlines.
- Possess effective communication skills to allow you to liaise with all teams you procure goods for as well as suppliers and colleagues in corporate services.
- Logical problem-solving skills and the determination to see issues through to resolution.
- The ability to work effectively as a team and build strong relationships with your colleagues.

Hybrid working is possible for this role, although you will be expected to spend a proportion of each week on site and with other team members. There are no travel expectations for this role.
