We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic individual to join our multi-disciplinary breast imaging team at the Nottingham Breast Institute on the level 5 Assistant Practitioner Higher apprenticeship programme.

In this role you will perform a full range of additional specialised imaging techniques, in addition to standard 2-D mammograms, within the screening, screening assessment and symptomatic breast services. You will be supported to expand your current skill-set, deliver clinical excellence, build effective working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team and provide positive patient experiences. This position would be suitable for an assistant practitioner already working within a clinical mammography role.

Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. This is an occupational requirement, as a result the post
is exempt under section 9; part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants should apply.

At the Nottingham Breast Institute we provide outpatient services for those requiring diagnosis or treatment in the Nottingham area and we deliver the Nottinghamshire breast screening programme with a screening population of over 100,000 women. Our breast screening service operates over 4 sites: the Nottingham Breast Institute, Ropewalk House and at our 2 mobile units. Whilst completing your apprenticeship training you will work alongside our experienced team of advanced practitioners, radiographers, assistant practitioners and radiographic assistants providing exceptional patient care within both screening and symptomatic mammography clinics whilst learning advanced imaging techniques.

During your apprenticeship, you will receive on-going support from our experienced mammography team and your assigned mentor, and you will receive a salary enabling you to earn as you learn. You will continue learning whilst working within our busy imaging clinics.

**To be eligible for the apprenticeship training you will need**:
To hold level 2 English and Maths, or equivalent

Be legally allowed to work in the UK

Have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.

**Main responsibilities to include**:
To successfully complete the Assistant Practitioner Higher Apprenticeship

Participate in the Breast Imaging Services staff rotation both on the mobile units, static satellite unit and at the breast institute

Provide mammogram examinations for both breast screening and symptomatic women

Make decisions about variable physical characteristics of a client’s anatomical breast shape in order to achieve the best possible mammogram

Positively promote breast awareness and participate in all aspects of Health Promotion where appropriate.

To perform the full range of additional specialised imaging techniques during assessment and symptomatic clinics at the Breast Institute. This includes clients with learning or physical disabilities.

Rapidly assess the emotional needs of the client through non-verbal means of communication
- facial expression, body language, tone of voice and other subtle reactions to the screening environment.

To demonstrate advance communication skills when working in the assessment clinic, as women are often extremely anxious.

Be able to communicate complex information and possibly negotiate in a calm and professional manner with clients who may be angry or distressed.

To take active responsibility for the induction and mentoring of Assistant Practitioners in mammography.

Communicate effectively with other Assistant Practitioners/Mammography Associates when supervising screening clinics at the breast unit to ensure smooth and efficient running of the clinic.

Undertake all clinical duties required to a high professional and technical standard of work in conjunction with qualified Radiographers, who will provide advice and supervision where required

Assist Radiographers with localisations and stereo procedures

Work independently in the x-ray room, to problem solve minor equipment faults and address the women’s concerns with regards to cancer or radiation dangers.
