**The Role**: To provide robust audit and management practices and systems to support the Clinical Coding department deliver its strategic objectives. Organise and undertake complex internal/external audits of clinical coding data. Undertake clinical coding audits at the levels of Trust, Department and individual clinical coding officer. Organise all aspects of the external audits, to be carried out in a manner consistent with the Audit Commission and /or NHS Digital Guidelines.

Produce formal audit reports within agreed timescales and make recommendations on how to improve Clinical Coding quality and accuracy. Feedback from audits to be delivered and training given as necessary to coding and clinical staff as required. Carry out at least one trust-wide internal audit of 200 FCEs per year in accordance with NHS Digital guidelines. Key responsibilities: 1.

Work with the Senior Manager to provide expertise within the Audit service area.2. Have responsibility for Trust wide audits, making independent decisions at appropriate level3. Work with the Senior Managers, Clinicians and Team members on a number of audits4. Undertake clinical coding audits at the levels of Trust, Department andindividual clinical coding officer.

Trust-wide audits must be conducted usingthe latest version of the national NHS Digital Clinical Coding AuditMethodology5. Be responsible for developing and tracking the progress of audit plans6. To identify and manage risks and issues within the service, including thedevelopment and implementation of contingency plan7. Work collaboratively with other service areas within the Trust to ensuresuccessful service delivery.8.

To support the successful delivery of the key outputs and benefits of theservice, which support service improvement initiatives9. Ensure that appropriate plans, documentation and procedures are in place.10. Attend meetings as necessary, report progress and resolve issues.11. To make routine presentations, covering complex issues to groups on topics associated with programmes/projects and to demonstrate systems to users when necessary12.

To assist other departmental managers and colleagues by providing specialist advice or support when appropriate.13. Work with divisions/management to develop KPIs to support their objectives14. Work with external data sources for benchmarking purposes review or audit information if required from alerts.15. Organise and undertake complex internal/external audits of clinical coding data.16.

Organise all aspects of the external audits, to be carried out in a mannerconsistent with the Audit Commission and /or Connecting for Health Guidelines.17. Produce formal audit reports within agreed timescales and makerecommendations on how to improve Clinical Coding quality and accuracy.18. Carry out at least one trust-wide internal audit of 200 FCEs per year inaccordance with Connecting for Health guidelines.19. Undertake regular routine Internal audits of clinical coding and all aspects of the clinical coding function to ensure high quality data is supported and appropriate action is taken when necessary to ensure the clinical coding team displays a high level of skill in the use of the two classification systems.20.

Maintain ACC and audit status as required by NHS classification service21. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of National policy developments in regards to deadline changes, in particular the SUS (Secondary User Service)timescales.22. Act as a signatory and order goods/services as required. Performance Management: 1.

The post holder will be required to participate in the development of KeyPerformance Indicators within the audit/coding service.2. The post holder will be required to monitor and manage delivery against these targets and produce regular management update reports detailingperformance levels and provide supporting information to explain improvements or degradation in service and action taken to resolve situations and to achieve progress.3. The post holder in conjunction with the Senior Manager will liaise with others to ensure they are briefed as to service achievements.4. The post holder will work to achieve agreed service objectives working within broad professional policies acting on their own initiative.5.

Provide full support for internal and external audits and act on recommendations as appropriate.6. Dedicate the required concentration required to collate, analyse, check and report on information, while coping with ongoing audit issues andinterruptions.7. Work within protocols, and contribute towards their on-going development. The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.

The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation. Education and Training Development: The post holder will also be expected to support/mentor others within the team.
