**About Us**

There is a need to adapt the way West Sussex County Council delivers services so that we can better meet the needs of people in West Sussex both now and in the future. The Adults in House Social Care Services are making changes that will ensure day services are flexible, responsive and see people for who they are, as well as what they can and wish to do.

The West Sussex Day Opportunity hub based in Shoreham by Sea, has undergone a recent refurbishment plus a change of management and is now open Monday to Friday 9 am until 5 pm.

The Glebelands hub welcomes people with a variety of needs to remain independent. Staff recognise that everyone is an individual and provide person centred opportunities where the key aim is to improve people’s well-being using a strengths-based approach.

The Hub promotes independence and well-being, supporting people to remain independent. The people who attend the Hub can be on a time-limited programme to build their independent living skills or develop new interests and hobbies. Other people attend to retain independence, reduce isolation and loneliness, provide carer respite, and learn new skills, in a safe environment.

At the Glebelands hub, we are looking to recruit an organised and highly motivated Day Opportunities Coordinator to work on a full-time, 6-month temporary secondment basis.

**About The Job**

**Salary**: £25,991 to £28,672 per annum
**Working Pattern**: Full-time (37 hours per week) Monday-Friday
**Contract Length**:Permanent
**Location**: Glebelands, Shoreham

Are you a strong communicator with skills to seek solutions to problems, with attention to detail and can work as part of the team to develop community-based projects or in-house meaningful activities?

The Day Opportunities Coordinator will support the senior team in managing the daily operation of the Hub. This will include, directing staff, completing everyday assessments, liaising with families and people who access the service.

You may be asked to carry out your duties on a temporary or permanent basis at other centres within West Sussex as the needs of the service requires.

For other people with more complex needs, a strong focus on maintaining their independence skills and having control over their care. You will build relationships with community partners to identify and develop opportunities.

You will provide formal supervision, advice and support to an identified group of staff and role model expected work practice and demonstrate the values of the organisation. This will include participating in a range of activities of daily living as required (e.g. personal care, mobility, medication etc.).

This role takes a key position in building trust with partners and family members to promote positive work, whilst offering realistic outcomes for people accessing the service.

You will attend training, meetings, and staff team and development days as required. You will be required to work across services where necessary on a temporary or permanent basis as the needs of the service reasonably require (including community-based activities).

**Experience and Skills**
Key Skills**:

- A detailed understanding of the needs of the people you will be supporting. You will be a champion of coproduction and strength-based approaches in social care.
- You will embed ‘ordinary life’ principles in daily practice and help and support staff, people accessing Day Opportunities, families, paid and unpaid carers, colleagues and other stakeholders to understand the value of this approach.
- You will act as a champion and lead in designated areas of daily practice - e.g. support planning, risk assessment and positive risk taking, positive behaviour techniques, Health and Safety, transport, supporting with eating and drinking etc.
- You will be able to communicate clearly with the people accessing the service and participate in conversations with all stakeholders. You will be able to adapt language appropriately, being aware of the sensitivities of language when working with a diverse range of people.
- You will be able to negotiate and manage priorities, expectations and responses to ensure that people’s needs are met.
- You will have some knowledge of local and national resources and be able to direct people to specific agencies and professionals. You will support enquiries to the service and follow up on new people wanting to access Day Opportunities. You will also support people over the first few week
