If you have an understanding of science, know your way around the laboratory and are looking to build a career in environmental monitoring, then we might just be the right place for you.

You bring your scientific knowledge and enthusiasm, and we’ll provide in-depth training to help you launch your career.

**Here's what you can expect to be doing**
As an Assistant Scientist in our team, you’ll:

- Assist with general scientific investigations and site work
- Move between teams as workloads fluctuate

**A few things about you**
You’ll have:

- A desire to work within the field of science
- Some knowledge of chemical analysis/experience of working within a laboratory

As this role involves the use of a departmental vehicle, it is essential that you have a full UK driving licence.

**Additional information**

Our new, purpose-built lab is just off J26 on the M5, so it’s a relatively easy commute by car.

Salary range is £18,887 to £19,264 per annum.

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.
