The Macmillan Information and Support Service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Health or Social Care Professional to join our friendly and supportive team as a Macmillan Cancer Information Officer. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to become part of a specialist person-centered Service. The role is based across Nottingham City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, working within our Macmillan Information and Support Centres.

Provide a clinical service working autonomously without prior arrangement to answer queries about all aspects of cancer care.

Ensure direct, prompt and appropriate signposting and/or referral to other agencies as appropriate.

Ensure practice is evidence based and the information used in the Macmillan Information and Support Service is up to date, relevant and consistent with organisational policies and that access to appropriate information sources is maintained.

Assist in the development of the Macmillan Information and Support Service at NUH

Act as a resource for cancer related information.

Maintain accurate records/documentation of enquiries while respecting the right to patient confidentiality.

Provide training for members of the multi-professional team, relating to the provision of cancer information and support, both within and externally to the Trust.

Have involvement with local cancer support groups, and other voluntary organisations on the provision of accessible and acceptable cancer information, facilitating their involvement in the development and provision of the Macmillan Information and Support Service

Supervise and appraise Macmillan Cancer Information Assistants.

Maintain accurate and up to date data on uptake of the service.

As a Macmillan Cancer Information Officer you will have direct contact with people affected by cancer, offering emotional, practical and financial information and support. You will work flexibly, being visible and accessible for anyone affected by cancer.

You will provide senior support to the Macmillan Information and Support Service Team and to wider NUH colleagues and community services. You will provide support with complex cases and will have experience working in a cancer setting at a senior level.

You will provide training for the Teams support workers and have leadership responsibilities.

You will be able to effectively manage your own and time and workload whilst being responsive to the needs of those who access the Service and supporting the wider team.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with people affected by cancer at a senior level or someone who is ready for the next step in their career and wishes to gain experience in this specialist area.

We are looking for someone who has knowledge of cancer treatments, treatment side effects, disease progression and the emotional, physical and financial effects that cancer and cancer treatment has.

We provide a comprehensive induction programme, including work shadowing, training and insight visits. We fully support long term access to both in-house and external training. Clinical supervision is encouraged and in addition to this you will have regular support sessions with the team and with your peers.

We are a small, friendly and supportive team and value each persons contribution to the Service. We recognise that this can be an emotionally challenging role and we encourage access to wellbeing support sessions.

Your core hours will be 8.15am - 4.15pm 5 days a week, worked Monday - Friday.

A job share will be considered with a 3-day / 2-day week split.

This is a 24 month fixed term contract, internal secondments will be considered with current line managers permission.

You will be employed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
