This appointment is for a CAR-T fellow in Haematology, based at Southampton General Hospital. The post holder will join the Department of Clinical Haematology and participate in the management of patients with haematological disorders undergoing CAR-T cell therapy (including ALL and Lymphoma). The post holders will work within consultant-led subspecialty teams, alongside specialty registrars. There may be the option to contribute to the haematology on-call rota depending on experience and needs of the service.

The posts are open to individuals with experience in internal medicine and/or clinical haematology

Southampton has a comprehensive research active Clinical Haematology department, incorporating Oncological Haematology, Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, and others.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will work alongside the specialty registrars in haematology, and opportunities for education and supervision will be identical, including allocation of an educational supervisor for the duration of the post.

**The principal duties of the posts will include**:
Review of patients referred for CAR-T cell therapy for lymphoma and ALL, in an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Liaison with referring teams, CAR-T consultants, and CAR-T coordination team in planning for apheresis, bridging, infusion, discharge, and post-CAR-T follow-up.

Management of patients undergoing CAR-T cell therapy in the inpatient setting, in collaboration with the subspecialty ward teams and supervising CAR-T consultants.

Management of patients on the ambulatory CAR-T pathway.

Referral to other specialty teams (e.g. GICU, neurology, cardiology) as required to provide optimal care of patients undergoing CAR-T cell therapy.

Discussion of cases as appropriate at the Southampton lymphoma and leukaemia MDTs, and the CAR-T MDT.

Active involvement with the development and expansion of the CAR-T service within the WBMT&CT, in collaboration with the lymphoma and ALL subspecialty CAR-T leads.

Active involvement in the recruitment and management of patients within CAR-T clinical trials.

Collaboration with other colleagues in the region through MDT and network-wide working.

Development of regional CAR-T referral pathways in collaboration with CAR-T lead consultants.

Participation in clinical governance activities including morbidity and mortality meetings and other committees as appropriate both within and external to the department.

Contribution to the audit activities of the WBMT&CTP and wider haematology department, including specialty regional and national audit programmes. Where possible, to participate in the collection and analysis of local data with a view to preparing and submitting papers for publication, and to contribute to the ongoing collection of ‘real-world’ UK CAR-T data through the National CAR-T Clinical Panel (NCCP).

Undertaking of procedures relevant to haematology, including bone marrow biopsy, intrathecal chemotherapy, and tunnelled central catheter removal. Where necessary, appropriate training and supervision will be provided.

Engagement with the specialty trainee education programme, including attendance at regular educational meetings. Pre-CCT post-holders will be expected to maintain an educational portfolio mirroring their equivalent stage of training. Post-CCT fellows will be required to engage with the trust’s existing appraisal system.

OR Internal Medicine experience for less than 12 months but holding MRCP Part 2 or equivalent

OR Clinical Haematology experience for at least 6 months
