**Senior Customs Control Specialist & Warehouse Coordinator for merchandise distributor**

BACKGROUND

This is a small dynamic merchandise distributor company with a robust supply chain and warehouse fulfilment operation, it is looking for an experienced Senior Customs Control Specialist & Warehouse Coordinator who is required to ensure compliance with HMRC and other regulatory bodies, managing legal aspects of customs clearance, and contributing to the efficiency of transportation processes; assist management in administrative and practical tasks associated with operating an import business and running a small distribution warehouse.

Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in import customs clearance on both ocean & air.

Must be able to load and unload delivery vehicles, by hand and with a forklift truck / pump truck, this work can be physically demanding at times.

Must be able to handle the administrative / computer office type tasks of the role.

Must be able to Monitor routine daily activities to ensure they are completed on time and correctly.

Good self-motivation, confidence to use own initiative, ability to follow guidance and instructions when required.

**The role includes but not limited to the following**:

- Customs control:_
- Managing, processing, and completing all legal aspects of customs clearance and transportation.
- Serving as the primary contact for service providers and customs agents.
- Monitoring, checking, and tracking certificates of origin from suppliers & customers.
- Handling customs papers and clearance in accordance with legal regulations.
- Training the Logistics team on compliance with customs controls.
- Leading the implementation of tax reduction strategies.
- Initiating and executing projects to achieve company targets and cost reduction.
- Office administration:_
- Managing the reception area, including welcoming customers and guests.
- Scheduling appointments and organising diary entries.
- Setting reminders for meetings, appointments and other important tasks.
- Making travel and hotel arrangements.
- Taking notes at meetings, preparing the minutes and subsequently distributing to all participants. Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
- Performing data entry roles, including updating records and databases for personnel, financial and legal information.
- Managing inventory of office supplies, including stationery and multimedia equipment to ensure smooth office operations.
- Communicating and interacting with clients, vendors, suppliers and customers.
- Maintaining computerised administration, stock inventory and retrieval systems.
- PA service to the MD: car servicing and MOTs, properties maintenance, etc.
- Warehouse operations_
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles, by hand and with a forklift truck / pump truck.
- Operating a forklift truck / pump truck to move and rearrange stock and ensure that products are stored safely (especially battery-powered products) and labelled correctly and safely (especially battery-powered products).
- Inspecting and approving the quality and quantity of goods or equipment received and shipped out.
- Keeping a careful record of the stock on the warehouse management system, so that it can be located quickly.
- Enforcing health standards, safety and security procedures.
- Enforcing company rules and regulations.
- Using real-time data collection to increase accuracy and lower labour costs.
- Supervise any staff hired to assist with loading or unloading containers.
- Assess, analyse and develop actionable plans for loss prevention and productivity.
- Ensure that the machinery used in the warehouse is kept in good working order.
- Ensuring goods are stored in the appropriate place; checking for damaged or missing items.
- Picking orders using a hand-held scanner from the storage space and bringing them for packing, or to the loading bay for transportation.
- Preparing and packaging goods ready for onward transfer to customers and arranging appropriate transport to meet customer’s requirements.
- Cleaning and maintaining the warehouse will also be part of the daily routine.
- With heavy equipment in operation warehouses can be dangerous places, so following workplace health and safety rules will be essential.

**Skills and qualifications**:
Minimum 5 years experience within a transport and logistics background and knowledge of customs entries and transit procedures. Salary will be dependent on level of knowledge and experience.
