**Job description**:
This is an exciting time to join the Roads and Projects Infrastructure Delivery (RaPID) Directorate, part of the Roads and Local Group, working on one of the highest profile modal portfolios in the Department for Transport (DfT). As a directorate we bring together a mix of in-depth expertise including project and programme delivery and policy managers.

The directorate is responsible for England’s motorways and major A-roads, which are known as the Strategic Road Network (SRN), and provides client and sponsorship functions to National Highways (NH), a government-owned company that manages, develops and maintains the SRN. We have strong, collaborative relationships with NH, the Office of Rail and Road, Transport Focus, and colleagues across the Department and Government to ensure the SRN is safe and reliable, mitigates its impact on the environment, and keeps people and goods moving across the country to enable growth and development.

We are looking to recruit a Portfolio Officer to sit within the Portfolio and Performance Division. The role will primarily lead on managing the key client governance the division has with NH, including Ministerial engagement, and leading on portfolio risk management for the second Roads Investment Strategy (RIS2) portfolio. RIS2 is the five-year funding settlement which NH have been provided to carry out its management, enhancement and maintenance of the SRN between 2020-2025.

This is a high-profile role in which you will play a key role in ensuring that the Department is able to Client NH as effectively and efficiently as possible. You will be at the heart of day-to-day work and gain insight into the complexities of delivering a large-scale infrastructure portfolio.

**_ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: _**

The post holder will be responsible for managing the regular high-profile meetings that take place, at both Official and Ministerial level, between the Directorate and National Highways. This will include:

- Providing the secretariat function for the Client Monthly and Ministerial Bilat meetings between National Highways, the Roads Ministers & Senior DfT Officials, including setting meeting cadence and ensuring this is fit for purpose.
- Ensuring that the relevant meeting paperwork (agenda, briefings, minutes and actions) are collated in a timely manner and to a high quality. Including working with the overall Client Relationship Lead in RaPID.
- Working with work leads across the Directorate and wider DfT, including the RaPID Director and DDs, to obtain the relevant information for agendas, driving and owning this process to ensure accurate briefing for Senior Officials and Ministers.

You will also have oversight of portfolio risk management for RIS2, this will include:

- Leading on the identification, recording and management of portfolio risks for the Portfolio and Performance Team, including clearing risk updates with the DD and G6 and actioning on the Power BI system.
- Providing Senior Management with the information they need to have informed decisions on portfolio risks in order to take the most appropriate mitigation and to highlight emerging risks or issues.
- Adhering to corporate risk management process and best practice and acting as an advocate of this across the wider Directorate
