**Job summary**:

- The postholder will be either the Deputy Area Lead for Derby and Derbyshire or Greater Lincolnshire. You will become an expert on economic growth and levelling up in the local area, building strong local knowledge, including its politics, challenges and opportunities. You will manage relationships with some Local Authority Chief Executives, local authority economic development officers, Higher Education/Further Education providers, local business organisations and other stakeholders. You will develop expertise on sectors, clusters, devolution and will develop productive relationships with policy officials across a range of areas including sector teams and transport. There will be opportunities to lead on a particular challenge or opportunity for the area. You will use your detailed local knowledge to lead on high quality briefing material tailored for the audience (usually Ministers and Senior Civil Servants), and promoting, arranging, and supporting ministerial and other visits. You will also support the team working on area devolution deals.**Job description**:

The team works with a breadth of people and organisations to drive growth, improve lives and devolve power to the local level, as well as regenerate town centres, and support policies ranging from freeports to innovation. We also make sure voices from across our region are heard when decisions are taken by Government.

The postholder will:
- Manage relationships on funding delivery, working with local partners to deliver new programmes including the £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund and Towns Fund.
- Work with the central funding delivery team, other area team colleagues and delivery partners to spot risks, challenge poor performance and tackle issues as they arise, leading on corrective actions, drawing on support from others.
- Support partners to understand government priorities across a wide policy span and to inform cross Whitehall discussions with local insight and detail.
- Work with central policy teams to provide answers to enquiries from local authorities and other organisations on themes such as the bidding process to assessment and delivery.
- Input into policy, corporate or delivery design, attending policy boards and participating in policy / programme design working groups to ensure local delivery considerations are included in policy making and feeding back to your area team.
- Provide advice on key local challenges or opportunities for your team’s wider area, developing thinking on complex issues for SCS and Ministerial advice as appropriate, and working with your team and others, using your relationships to lever solutions where issues arise.
- Deputise for the G7 Area Lead as required representing Government at meetings including at Towns Boards, LEP meetings and various Partnership boards.
- For the Derby/Derbyshire post you will manage one HEO, with an emphasis on creating a performing and inclusive culture. The Greater Lincolnshire post does not have line management responsibilities but will involve some task management of an HEO
- Work independently to plan ahead, setting direction, identifying upcoming opportunities and challenges and matching resource appropriately.
