London, United Kingdom Greater London Authority Full time

**London is a city recognised as the global capital for arts and culture. Our theatres, music venues, museums and galleries are renowned across the world. Our creative industries are vital to London’s success and the recording studios, rehearsal spaces, artists' workspaces, grassroots music, and LGBTQ+ venues all contribute to this success. The Space for Culture team works to keep cultural infrastructure at the heart of the city, by safeguarding, supporting, and nurturing through the Culture and Community Spaces at Risk programme and building, developing, and consolidating as part of London’s capital development.**

This role is part of a small team which protects London’s community and cultural assets, delivering against the Mayor’s priorities for London’s cultural and creative industries. The Mayor created the Culture at Risk Office to protect London’s grassroots and world-leading cultural infrastructure. Since 2016, we have directly supported and advocated for creative businesses, cultural organisations and community groups with the aim of moving at-risk cultural and creative spaces from immediate threat and towards long-term sustainability. In response to the Covid-19 crisis and evidence of the threats to community infrastructure, particularly those led by and serving underrepresented groups, we took on an expanded remit to protect cultural and community spaces at risk.

Your work will cover priority cases, lobbying, negotiating, advocacy and providing strategic advice and guidance in business planning, sustainability, governance, and lease negotiations. You’ll work closely with local authority culture, economic development, regeneration and planning teams, developers, funders, Government, and sector representatives to save, preserve and support the spaces which really matter to Londoners.

You'll work directly with London’s vibrant spaces, particularly those which represent Black, Asian and minority ethnic, Deaf, and disabled people, LBGTQ+, low-income groups, older people, and women-led groups and those located in areas of London where there is a lack of, and demonstrated need for, this type of cultural or social infrastructure.

***Principal Accountabilities**:

- Gather and monitor live data and research on cultural organisations and work with internal teams to analyse data to support case-making. Give an evidence base for policy intervention, to inform equitable funding distributions and to inform Good Growth spatial policy.
- Take on casework to protect existing cultural and community assets, including lobbying, negotiation, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, evidence gathering and capacity building.
- Evaluate and report on programme outputs, reviewing technical aspects of programme design to improve efficiency and the sharing of insights, resources and tools. Develop new methods of intelligence gathering, programme design and engagement.
- Work with programme team and consultants to triage enquires against criteria, support co-ordination and prioritisation across the team, take on selected cases and ensure resources and capacity building opportunities are shared.
- Give strategic advice and guidance to organisations at risk, especially in business planning, sustainability, governance, lease negotiations and fundraising working across other GLA teams as relevant.
- Ensure that Culture and Community Spaces at Risk work informs and is connected with the wider Cultural Infrastructure work, flagging any key areas of concern or opportunity and advise on new assets and opportunities where gaps may exist.
- Support the expansion of the team’s cultural infrastructure mapping to include community infrastructure, verifying data collected through casework management system, creating new data sets, identifying and procuring partners who hold data, and moderating public submissions. Deepen and promote relationships established between the Culture at Risk Office with the network of partners, funders and grassroots, user-led cultural social and civic organisations across London.
- Support the development of a communications strategy to support the Culture and Community Spaces at Risk programme, including use of the GLA website and other channels. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication with internal teams and external stakeholders including artists, voluntary groups, strategic agencies, and local and central government.
- Undertake and consolidate research and evidence for the Cultural Infrastructure tea
