Exeter, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

**Full Time 37 hours per week**

At Devon County Council we work together to make Devon ‘the best place’. We are an ambitious authority and are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Senior Projects Officer that shares that vision and wants to make a difference for everyone within Devon.

We have a strong, experienced and supportive transport planning team at Devon County Council, which you will immediately feel part of. The transport planning team has a key role in developing transport plans to support ambitious housing and jobs plans, whilst also ensuring that we respond positively to Devon County Council’s climate emergency declaration and supporting healthier, more active lifestyles. Understanding how the impact of technology and innovation will change the way people travel is an increasingly important part of our work as is understanding how we can influence peoples’ behaviour to support safer and sustainable travel for their daily needs. In recent years, the team has been hugely successful in submitting bids and securing funding to enable delivery of high quality cycle routes (Wray Valley Trail), new railway stations (Marsh Barton Station) and several high-profile highway projects (North Devon Link Road). You will enjoy seeing projects that you influenced helping build a Devon where people can get around easily and live healthy and fulfilling lives.

It is an exciting time to be joining the team - we’ve recently secured a number of high-profile multi-modal grant funding opportunities including Bus Service Improvement Plan, Active Travel Fund and Levelling Up Funds. The team are also looking to develop a new Local Transport Plan, building on the recent strategies such as the Exeter Transport Strategy, Bus Service Improvement Plan, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans and, crucially, the Devon Carbon Plan. Your role would be to assist with the delivery of our grant programmes and finding ways to reduce carbon emissions from transport. As an effective communicator, you will be a proven team player and confident liaising with County Councillors, stakeholders and presenting at Committees to secure decisions on transport proposals.

The post will be full time and will be based at County Hall, with flexible working and the potential for a proportion of homeworking during the working week.

**About you**

As a specialist in your field, you will bring your experience as a transport planner and skills to direct, prioritise and manage the work of others efficiently. You will be able to inspire others with your ideas and actions and provide strategic direction to our transportation schemes and strategies. You will be an effective communicator able to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus and gain support for projects and plans that will decarbonise transport and encourage healthier, more active travel.

**About the rewards**
We know that support and development are invaluable at this vital stage of your career, so, we will do all we can to help you move forward during your time at Devon County Council while helping you maintain a healthy work-life balance. In addition to our training and career progression opportunities, we offer a range of benefits including a local government pension scheme, a commitment to flexible working, access to our confidential Employee Assistance Programme and discounts in local organisations and on bus travel. We will give you 23 days annual holiday to start with and an extra 3 days over Christmas (annual leave entitlement may be higher depending on years of continuous local government service).
