The role

This role will support and advise colleagues to fulfil their responsibilities of the University’s Business Continuity Plans.

The post provides training, leads and supports colleagues with investigations, and will participate in inspection and audit schedule across the University’s portfolio. Lead and assist on the development or review of new and or existing documentation to support the continual improvement of the University’s health, safety and environment management system and business continuity framework.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, students and partners delivering the University’s core objectives and preserving our values.

Working with a team of professionals, the role will support the development and implementation of the University’s Business Continuity Plan and Framework in order to enable the continued delivery of critical services that support the University’s strategic objectives.

Support and advise on the University’s response to emergencies and major incidents, utilising the investigations as opportunities to build the business continuity plan, enabling a continual improvement opportunities across the University’s work activities.

What you’ll do
- Facilitating the University’s Faculty’s and Professional Service Departments to meet their responsibilities for development and implementation of operational Business Continuity plans and processes.
- Coordinating and integrating procedures and frameworks with key stakeholders to ensure seamless transition through the phases of planning for, responding to and recovering from Major Incidents.
- Designing and delivering a comprehensive training, exercise and promotion programme for the business continuity framework.
- Development of the business continuity framework to support a resilient culture and to ensure colleagues can discharge their responsibilities appropriately.
- Liaising with local organisations and sector partners to develop reciprocal support arrangements to support the University’s business continuity planning.
- Advising and supporting Strategic Response Team and Recovery Management Team to plan for and respond to major incidents.
- Adopt a risk-based approach and effective working relationships with stakeholders to identify gaps and priorities and to identify and implement innovative solutions using specialist knowledge, skills and experience to reduce risk.
- Manage, monitor and maintain records to meet internal and external requirements.
- Develop solutions for business continuity challenges that recognise the diverse nature of the University’s many activities, inherent resource challenges and devolved governance structure and responsibility.
- Analyse and interpret data to identify trends, opportunities and risks and generate innovative solutions to address these and enhance resilience, demonstrating improvement through exercising and validation.
- To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Who you are - Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills required:
Essential
- Relevant degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or willing to work towards.
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory, principles standards and best practices of Business Continuity Management and the ability to implement these in planning and process development.
- Experience leading on the establishment and ongoing management of a Business Continuity Management system including its strategy, policy and framework.
- The ability to encourage and persuade people at all levels to engage with and grow a strong health and safety culture within the University
- Be able to deliver authoritative and independent advice, making practical and realistic judgements on issues affecting the management of health and safety and business resilience within the University.
