This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join a well-established community team based in Ceredigion. We are happy to consider full-time, part-time and flexible working arrangements. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with school aged and/or preschool children.

We are looking for an individual who demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and organisational skills, with a passion for delivering high standards of care working in the heart of the community. You will work as part of a well-established team of therapists, assistants and multi-agency colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will be supported by a team of Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and have the opportunity to be part of shaping and developing the service as well as providing supervision to junior colleagues.

The caseload will comprise of children with a range of Speech Language and Communication Needs, and there will be also be small number of children with complex needs.

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload within identified schools, providing assessment, intervention, advice and training asrequired. An ability to develop strong working relationships with education staff is essential.

You will also be required to liaise closely with parents, education staff and other health professionals to ensure strategies and approaches can beembedded both at home and in school.

The development of leadership skills in all posts is actively promoted within the Hywel Dda Speech and Language Therapy Service. Weencourage active engagement with local Professional Practice Groups (PPGs) and involvement with innovations in Speech and LanguageTherapy at an All Wales/National level.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential


  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • RCSLT membership
  • Knowledge of national and local policies and initiatives relevant to the caseload
  • Knowledge of a wide range of specialist assessment tools and procedures relevant to the caseload
  • Knowledge of differential diagnosis relevant to SLCN in children
  • Knowledge of selecting, setting and evaluating treatment goals
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions relevant to the caseload, and ability to demonstrate the evidence base for these approaches
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working
  • Knowledge of legal and professional issues relating to confidentiality and record keeping

Desirable


  • Basic counselling
  • Understanding of the principles of audit/ clinical governance
  • Basic qualitative and quantitative research approaches
  • Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety issues
  • Knowledge of bilingualism and considerations necessary when delivering therapy in a bilingual environment

  • Experience of working with children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs in a range of settings, and including individual and group work
  • Experience of working in schools
