In line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new Mental Health in Schools Teams (MHST) service is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

You will be responsible for the line management of staff, developing the service and the clinical governance of the team. You will also bring the creativity of a new service and approach to mental health requires in transforming the delivery of mental health services in the city and responding to the changing needs of our community. You will be responsible for inspiring the journey of developments of MHST alongside our key partners.

The post holder will oversee the delivery and evaluation of the Green Paper Mental Health in Schools Trailblazer in dedicated Schools. The post holder will work as a specialist member of the clinical multi-disciplinary team in providing the highest quality clinical care and treatment for young people, their families and/or carers within the school’s project areas. The post holder will work closely with other team members from a variety of clinical and service backgrounds to provide a psychological perspective to cases as well as ensuring the effective delivery of the Mental Health in Schools project. The post holder will be expected to travel and work from various locations as required.

As this is a school-based service delivery, the post holder will be expected to take their annual leave predominantly in the school holidays.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

You will value and promote a holistic and systemic approach to interagency working and be a calm, organised and creative leader for the team. You will be passionate about children’s mental health, early intervention and promote an inclusive and supportive working environment.

Some of the main duties include (please see full job description and person specification):

- Provide management and leadership to the project with clinical oversight of the delivery and supervision of practitioners within the team.
- Offer advice and consultation to education colleagues and to other non-professional carers where psychological intervention is a key aspect of treatment programmes.
- Provide clinical management for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Green Paper’s Mental Health in Schools plan and national key criteria in partnership with all stakeholders
- Work in partnership with the Operational Lead for the MH in schools’ pilot, wider CAMHS Partnership and schools and education settings to develop and embed whole school approaches to Mental Health and Emotional Well Being (MHEWB).
- Work in partnership with Manchester University through the Prestwich, other identified training centres and Health Education England regarding training and workforce development as part of the national CAMHS transformation programme and Green Paper delivery programme.
- Co-ordinate and facilitate multi-agency workshops and meetings to ensure cohesion.
- Ensure stakeholders are involved in all aspects of the development, delivery and evaluation of project plans including children, young people, and families.
- Ensure robust and timely reporting to local, regional, and national forums/ organisations including relevant risk management.
- Attend local, regional, and national training and forums when required to support the implementation of whole school approaches to Mental Health and Emotional Well Being disseminating key messages across the Partnership.
- To report and be accountable to the MHEWB work stream in addition to attending other work streams and meetings relevant to the implementation of the project.
- Ensure that relevant operational procedures and governance are in place for new service developments.
