Main Duties & Responsibilities The Department At present the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC) at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust provides a 24-hour Emergency Service to a population in excess of 255,000. The Emergency Department is located on the main hospital site, conveniently located near the Acute Surgical Unit, Acute Medical Unit, Theatres, Intensive Care, Medical Imaging Unit with Fracture Clinic and X-Ray Department adjacent. The Department comprises the following facilities: Large 6 bedded resuscitation room A 4 bedded Rapid Initial Assessment area in Majors (RAT) 20 Adult Majors cubicles in two separately areas Streaming and Triage Rooms along with rooms to carry out investigations from triage. Minor area with assessment & procedure cubicles, eye/ ENT room, 10 large rooms housing Primary Care, Minor Injuries and rooms to see mobile patients for Emergency Medicine.

Relatives room and a Bereavement bay Self-contained Paediatric area with Paediatric assessment area, treatment room and five individual cubicles. Second storey office accommodation and large Seminar room, meeting room, and staff room. An area for Simulation teaching The New Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (completed June 2017) The centre co-locates the Primary Care and Urgent and Emergency Care Department. The total annual attendances are approximately 127,000 a year, of which around 105,000 are new patients.

Emergency and Acute Medicine are working together to develop quality services for patients presenting with acute conditions, we are working with specialities to develop Same Day Emergency Care Pathways and Streaming Appointment to this post will support the team of dedicated and highly motivated clinicians, who work with our Emergency Medicine team. The Post The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Urgent and Emergency Care Division recognise the vital role that Emergency Medicine contributes to the quality of care patients receive when they need access to Emergency Care. The Junior Clinical Fellow will play a key role in helping deliver the care to a high standard. The successful applicant will obtain extensive training and experience in Emergency Medicine.

The successful applicant will gain competencies up to the level of the post applied for. They should be looking for their next challenge in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will be encouraged to develop and get involved with teaching and education opportunities, including simulation. We will encourage and aid with any specialist interests where the Service commitments allow.

At present, at middle grade level there are: 4 Specialty Registrars in Emergency Medicine 6 CESR trainees 6 Middle grade Clinical Fellows In time, we are intending to expand our CESR programme to achieve this expansion as well as taking on further Clinical Fellows that may progress to the CESR programme. Junior Training Grades doctors We are looking to expand our junior doctor numbers over the next year to 16 doctors, at present we have: 11 Core and Foundation Year 2 Doctors (training) 3 Clinical Fellows Advanced Care Practitioners and Emergency Care Practitioners We have a thriving programme in Emergency medicine and Primary care training and integrating ACPs and ECPs into UECC. We now have several ACPs working in both the ED and the PC parts of the centre and this is an expanding programme that has produced an excellent stable workforce in the department.

The Minor Injuries stream is now primarily run by the ECPs, with their own training programme. Key Tasks To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in order to support and help to provide a comprehensive Emergency Medicine Service within the Trust Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients. Assisting with teaching, training and assessment of junior staff and medical students, nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

Deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to ensure the safe running of the Department.
