Junior Clinical Fellow in Medicine

Rotherham, United Kingdom The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The Department Specialties The Division of Medicine incorporates multiple different inpatient specialties: Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetes and Endocrine, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Healthcare of the Older Person, Respiratory and Stroke. The Post The post is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, either 0800-1700 or 0900-1700 (with slight flexibility available to this timing if adjustment is needed e.g. 0930-1730) depending upon specialty. The post is intended as a training/development post with the potential for extension at the end into further years.

It is envisaged that a junior doctor coming into this post out of Foundation Year 2 training will, if continuing for 3 or 4 years be able to obtain full membership of the Royal College of Physicians and have the experience for completion of an alternative certificate pathway into higher specialty training (the equivalent of IM Stage 1 training). The posts will rotate 2 or 3 times a year to provide the successful junior doctor with a broad experience of medicine. Where possible these rotations will take into consideration areas of experience individuals would like to get. The majority of junior clinical fellow posts are in elderly or acute medicine given the size of these specialties and so a significant period of time in both these specialities would be expected.

There are also float posts where the junior doctor moves to work in the areas with most need. To provide continuity these movements will be for a week at a time into any one specialty. To meet the training objectives significant study leave is available including as standard two rostered days a month (to be taken either as two full days or four half days depending upon specialty) for self-development, revision, relevant courses etc. In subsequent years, five weeks a year access to a critical care environment will be provided with time taken from study leave allowance for this.

Strengthening the delivery of a high quality service across the hospital and community. Developing further links between these service areas and support services across the Trust Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality patient centred care. Participate in teaching and training. Quality assurance of the service and individual practice.

Work collaboratively with consultants, doctors in training, nursing and allied health professional teams to help shape the future of their specialities. We will also support you to attend relevant congresses/conferences and obtain journal, poster or guideline publication. Where it will be helpful we will facilitate your attendance at relevant training courses. On-call/Full Shift duties The post does not include on-call/out of hours work as standard but if vacancies arise on the (+20 person) rota and if the successful applicant is willing and the educational supervisor agrees with competence in working out of hours then this is possible.

General Clinical Governance 1. In conjunction with Consultant colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met. Any Other Duties 2. Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
