Poole, United Kingdom Dorset Blind Association Full time

**Job Summary**

**Resource Centre Coordinator**

**28 hours per week, to be worked within Monday to Friday**

**Salary £19,635 actual**

There are over 5,000 people registered as blind or partially sighted and an estimated 30,000 people living with serious sight loss in Dorset. The Dorset Blind Association works to help these people adjust to living with serious sight loss and still lead full, independent, healthy and socially active lives in their local community.

Our Equipment and Advice Centre, at our Poole office, is the first port of call for many people who need information and advice about sight loss. The Centre is also the base for our equipment service, which is designed to give all blind and partially sighted people living in Dorset full and easy access to specialist equipment and aids to daily living which are designed to help people suffering severe sight loss.

We are looking to recruit a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic individual to play a key part in delivering our equipment and advice service. Based at our offices in Ashley Cross, Poole, but also doing home visits in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area, the post holder will be responsible for a range of service delivery and administration tasks linked to this service.

While the post holder will be required to learn some technical skills and knowledge, the most important attribute will be having the right personality to deal with our diverse and varied group of service users.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to bring their skills, experience and personality to the Dorset Blind Association to help make a positive difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people in Dorset. So if you will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you are achieving that, and think you will thrive in a role which is partly office based and partly in the field, then we really want to hear from you.

**Key duties include;**
- Fielding telephone and in person enquiries about Dorset Blind Association services.
- Providing advice or, where appropriate, referring enquiries on to other Dorset Blind Association staff or sign posting people to other agencies.
- Demonstrating specialist equipment for people with sight loss at our Poole office and in people’s homes.
- Processing orders for equipment, including invoicing, payments and liaising with suppliers.
- Maintaining equipment supplies at appropriate levels, including in our charity shops.
- General office duties.
- Accurate record keeping and entering information on to web based database.
- To act as a good ambassador for the Dorset Blind Association and help where possible to raise its profile.
- Performing such other tasks as reasonably required by line manager.

**Person specification;**
- Experience working with the general public in a customer facing role.
- Warm, friendly personality and able to relate to and deal effectively with people on many levels and from all walks of life and backgrounds.
- An ability to problem solve and determined to find working and effective solutions to the many and varied challenges faced by our service users.
- Excellent communication skills, both face-to-face and over the telephone.
- Well presented.
- Willing to learn new skills and knowledge as necessary.
- Patient.
- Good IT skills.
- Good administrative and organisational skills.
- Experience of working with people with a disability.
- A good team player equally happy to take instructions and to work alone and unsupervised.
- Self-motivated, organised and able to prioritise.
- Willing to wear Dorset Blind Association branded uniform clothing provided at all times during working hours.
