Exeter, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

Killerton is a large, exciting, and complex estate that operates with over 50 staff and the generous support of more than 400 volunteers and many varied communities and partners. You would be arriving at a pivotal time in the estate’s development, and we are looking for someone with confidence, passion, and skill in working with and inspiring others along with a strong ability to prioritise their own workload.

Reporting to the Volunteering and Community Manager, you'll be assisting in leading for volunteering and community involvement both on and off property. You'll be championing one of the National Trust’s strategic priorities - ‘Everyone Welcome’ - which involves ensuring that our volunteering experience is always positive, flexible, and inclusive, and assisting in the creation of opportunities that are accessible and attractive to different audiences.

For more information about our commitment to inclusion and diversity please visit Our commitment to inclusion and diversity | National Trust

What it's like to work here:Fashion-famous and full of colour, Killerton is one of the National Trust’s largest special places. Located close to the vibrant city of Exeter, the 18th century house, garden, parkland, and wider estate welcomes in excess of 500,000 visitors a year. Its size and scale makes Killerton a truly wonderful place to work; within the formal visitor experience area sits Killerton House, grade II* listed Georgian mansion and former home to the Acland family. Close by is the grade I Chapel of the Holy Evangelists and the grade II Stable Block, all set within the grade II* Registered Park & Garden. Killerton House is an accredited museum, which houses a nationally significant collection of fashion, as well as nationally important landscape paintings and portraits.

This role is full-time 37.5 hours per week, initially on a two-year fixed term contract. The role will be based at Killerton House, normal working days will be Monday to Friday with occasional weekend working.

For more information about the property, please visit Killerton | Devon | National Trust

What you'll be doing:Reporting to the Volunteering and Community Manager and working alongside and supporting a volunteer team, you will be contributing to the development and delivery of Killerton’s plan for volunteering and community involvement across an always-bustling and vibrant 6,400-acre estate. You will be working to increase confidence and help support our 17+ department volunteer managers across the estate with volunteer recruitment, great volunteer management and to utilise the full functionality of our volunteering systems.

You'll also be responsible for ensuring our volunteering recognition processes are followed and help ensure compliance via volunteers completing essential learning where appropriate. You'll be assisting the Volunteering and Community Manager in measuring and evaluating the impact of our work, proactively engaging with, and listening and responding to volunteers, communities, and partners alike. As an organisation, we are determined to listen, respect and value the contributions of under-represented groups in the Trust.

We want to feel that anyone who works, volunteers or visits can have an equally positive experience. You will support work to increase the confidence and capability of others, collectively creating a positive, flexible, and inclusive environment for existing and future volunteers. Ultimately, your role will help increase the mutual benefit and impact of volunteering and community engagement across the site.

Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you if you have:

- Understanding of good practice in volunteering and volunteer management
- Able to build effective and collaborative working relationships with property teams and partners
- Understanding of social trends, different audience motivations and the external context impacting on volunteering and community engagement
