Technical Trainer

As a leading Genomic Laboratory hub (GLH) for the Education and Training of the Genomics Laboratory workforce, we are expanding our scope to include a Technical Trainer position. The Technical Trainer will be a key member of the Education and Training Team.
Working with the Technical Training Manager, the Technical Trainer will be responsible for supporting the delivery and co-ordination of technical training programmes such as Apprenticeships (Level 4 and 6) and Genetic Technologist Training. They will further support key laboratory functions around all-staff induction, core training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This will include meeting the required UKAS quality standards and supporting service developments, as necessary.
As an experienced laboratory practitioner, the post holder will regularly review their personal and professional development needs in line with key laboratory developments or changes in practice.
The post holder will be engaged regularly with CPD and seek new training and development opportunities.
The focus of the role is to support the co-ordination and delivery of Technical Training Programmes; specifically, Level 4 and 6 Healthcare Science Apprenticeships and Genetic Technologist Training. This will involve bringing together experience of educational programmes and key technical processes within genetics/molecular biology. The post holder will also cover elements of introductory and basic training, ensuring all staff have the foundations to develop in their roles and careers.
Working as part of the Education and Training Team there will be an additional focus of trainee development and wellbeing. This includes check-ins with trainees to monitor performance and help develop professional knowledge, skills, and practice. Where appropriate, the Technical Trainer will support trainees through any academic or workplace challenges, offering professional advice, bespoke training plans and review meetings.
Oversight and training for the role will be provided by the Education and Training Lead and Technical Training Manager. In addition to this, support will be given to the Technical Trainer to develop their educational and managerial ability further. This may include upskilling in elements of teaching and learning, assessment, curriculum development, or through management competencies and experiences.
