We are based in Hertfordshire, in the town of Hoddesdon. The Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose built scientific and administrative buildings together with a purpose built conference STE area has more than 5,000m2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Discovery team, and a newly formed Formulation Development department. The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard facilities for the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), formulation development and process chemistry. **Pharmaron Drug Discovery**

**Job Title: Cheminformatician - Drug Discovery**
**Job Summary**

The **Cheminformatician **/ **Cheminformatics Data Scientist** role will be responsible for maintaining database and software solutions for our drug discovery efforts as well as developing and implementing novel cheminformatic techniques and algorithms together with colleagues in the UK and across the world.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Maintain database resources and associated software and configure as new projects, requirements and software capabilities emerge
- Develop processes and customisable workflows that can be adapted and applied across the drug discovery portfolio.
- Install and/or develop cheminformatics algorithms and implement research prototypes to test their impact on our client drug discovery projects.
- Work with medicinal chemists and computational chemists and translate their feedback into algorithmic improvements.
- Contribute to modelling work for drug discovery projects to which you are assigned in our portfolio working closely with medicinal and computational chemists, and the rest of the project team.
- Play an integral role in efficiently and effectively transitioning projects from target identification into active drug discovery chemistry projects.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with members of the Computational Chemistry, and the wider Drug Discovery groups to deliver company and client goals.
- Some travel to Pharmaron sites in China and to partner sites will be required.

**Qualification**:
**Essential Requirements**:

- PhD in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Molecular Modelling or a closely related field.
- Strong in at least one programming language, preferably Python.
- Strong and demonstrable programming and technical skills and familiar with open source and proprietary Chemoinformatics libraries e.g. RDKit or other leading industry toolkits.
- Experience with creating, querying and modifying database resources.
- Evidence of input to Chemoinformatics and Computational Chemistry field of research, as demonstrated by appropriate papers, presentations, or code contributions to open source projects.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary scientific teams.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Experience with software installation/maintenance/interactions in desktop and cloud environments.
- Experience with machine learning and major machine learning frameworks, especially in the context of cheminformatics.
- Experience in commercial tools, such as those from Schrodinger, ChemAxon, Pipeline Pilot and KNIME.
- Prior experience of drug discovery project support, such as implementing compound library design, QSAR, docking, virtual screening, molecular fragmentation, structure-based drug design, pharmacophore generation and analysis, or multi-parameter optimisation.
- Capable of processing and deriving novel insights from large chemical data resources, e.g. ChEMBL, SureChEMBL, and PubChem.
- Sufficient knowledge of medicinal chemistry to understand the bottlenecks in drug design and how cheminformatics can help solve these.
