London, United Kingdom Barnardo's Full time

**Barnardo's TIGER Service**

**History of Service**

Barnardo's was the first voluntary organisation to listen and respond to the needs of sexually exploited children across the UK. The London service began in 1996 and has improved outcomes for a very significant number of vulnerable children across the years, working in close multi agency partnership with relevant statutory and voluntary agencies.

We have established a trauma and evidence informed approach to our work which will be both innovative and child centred: TIGER.

**Objectives of Services**

TIGER is the umbrella for a number of services that include CYP affected by sexual abuse, child sexual exploitation, displaying harmful sexual behaviour.

TIGER stands for Trauma Informed Growth and Empowered Recovery; Barnardo's unique evidence-informed and evaluated trauma-informed approach. The approach is designed to provide children and young people with the narrative to understand and express their experiences and coach them to recovery through empathetic listening, emotional regulation, positive psychology and personal goal-setting. We also work alongside safe primary caregivers to support the child to recovery.

So what does that mean in practice? We
- Currently work with any child between the ages of 3 and 18 (up to 25 with a disability)
- Provide a space in which they can express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and trauma experiences.
- Coach children and young people to identify their strengths and find the resource within themselves to aid their recovery.
- Help children and young people to set goals for themselves and to regain some form of control and self-belief.
- Help children understand pattens of abuse and explore healthy and unhealthy relationships.
- Work with schools, community, faith groups and commercial establishments to raise awareness of domestic abuse and impacts on CYP.
- Provide targeted group work support in schools and with community groups.

**Initial Specific Responsibilities**

Working with the TIGER Service you will be part of a dynamic team delivering and developing the TIGER approach and our reach across London. You will support colleagues by working in an agile way providing a suite of interventions to support children, young people and their families across London where there has been an allegation, or strong suspicion of exploitation, abuse, exposure to violence and harmful behaviours or domestic violence.

As a TIGER Practitioner your key responsibilities will be:

- Providing direct services to children, young people and their care-givers in need of trauma recovery.
- Working with groups of young people in schools who have experienced domestic violence.
- Providing training to professionals around HSB, CSE, CCE and Trauma Informed Practice
- Ensuring that children and young peoples are safeguarded at all times and your work is in accordance with safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and you always promote the welfare of children
- Working with the TIGER managers to promote the TIGER Service, attend meetings as requested and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners
- Attending regular TIGER Service meetings and contributing to the quality of practice and the impact made on children, young people and/or families
- Creating a culture of safe, effective, inclusive and participatory practice within the TIGER Service

**Supplementary Information**

This post requires the postholder to work flexibly from Barnardo's offices in London and home, as well as attend meetings and deliver case work across London.

The support will be delivered across London - in a blended model of face to face and digital; working flexibly between Barnardo's offices, local authority sites and home.

You will be required to work flexibly in order to meet a range of demands in this role including: relationship building; recording; delivering training; providing case consultation; engaging children with a broken sense of trust and managing robust professional boundaries.

An understanding of safeguarding and trauma recovery is critical to this role as well as experience in working with children and young people.

As a culturally competent and reflective practitioner your approach to working with children and young people will be child centred. You will be able to use your initiative in addition to working as part of a team and have excellent communication skills.

As a high performing practitioner in Children's Services, you will be responsible for recording and maintaining accurate service user records and you will ensure processes are followed with accurate information stored on the TIGER Service's data recording system

Working in an inclusive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework, you will ensure this ethos exists, and is maintained and support colleagues' wellbeing.
