You’ll be responsible for providing short breaks for disabled children and young people on a 1:1 basis, both in the community and in a child or young person’s home. Each break is designed around their individual interests and hobbies, so could involve going swimming, to a local park, or perhaps to the shops. As well as helping them to access and engage in a variety of positive activities, we’ll rely on you to promote their independence, inclusion and learning while working in a person centred way. And, when it comes to the providing practical and emotional support they need to enable them to meet the goals and outcomes identified in their support plan, again, we’ll count on you

Experience of working with disabled children would be useful, but is not essential. You will, however, need an understanding of the needs of disabled children and young people plus a commitment to safeguarding. Effective communication skills, including the ability to adapt your style to suit the individual, is important too, as is the ability to work on your own and use your initiative. Available to work regular evenings and weekends, you have lots of drive, commitment and enthusiasm, while a Childcare qualifications at NVQ or an equivalent level and/or paediatric first aid certificate and/or moving and handling training would be an advantage.
