UKCEH is looking for two Data Centre Administrators to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights, and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges. Undertaking this important work creates a large volume of complex data which needs to be captured, processed, and deposited in a specific and regulated manner. As such, we have become its custodians, protecting it for future generations to access.

You’ll be joining our Environmental Data Science Group in Lancaster, working for the Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC) as part of a team of around 25 Data Managers and Data Stewards. The EIDC is part of the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Environmental Data Service and is hosted by UKCEH.

These roles have arisen following a particularly busy period, and you will play a key role in the processing of an annual load of approximately 500 grants. This role would suit someone who is detail oriented and process driven with a key eye for detail and is confident making decisions independently.

Your main responsibilities will include:

- Communicating with a wide range of grant holders from across the terrestrial and freshwater sciences to develop research data management plans that meet NERC data policy
- Provision of guidance to grant holders covering requirements to meet NERC data policy, data archiving and the research data publication process
- Identifying research data of long-term value in grants and determine the correct long-term archive to meet NERC data policy
- Initiating archiving of research data to the EIDC
- Following quality-assured, process driven protocols

For the role of Data Centre Administrator we’re looking for somebody who:

- Has an understanding of the scientific process or experience within a research environment, with an understanding of the grant process
- Works well within a team but works confidently independently and can manage own workload effectively
- Has excellent professional and interpersonal communication skills
- Has good attention to detail and accurate attention to detail
