**Job summary**:
The Fleet Commander is the Chief Operating Officer for the Royal Navy, managing all operational outputs on behalf of the First Sea Lord and overseeing the generation of units and personnel out to five year, directing the four 2* Directorates that work directly to him (COMOPS, CSF, Dir FGen and Dir SM).

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Fleet Commander attends Admiralty/Navy Boards, the Executive Committee, Campaign Management Boards, Front Line Leadership Forums and routine military and civilian engagement both UK and International.

As the PA, the role will require a successful applicant to understand all of the Fleet Commander’s outputs and be able to prioritise his busy diary effectively. The PA will work directly to the Military Assistant (MA) working alongside their two deputies.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. It is anticipated that the routine working hours will be 0830 - 1700 Mon - Thur, 0830 - 1330 Fri. However, there may be occasions when these time may vary, but this will be compensated for elsewhere in the week.

**Person specification**:
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Plan, manage and control Fleet Commander’s short
- and long-term programme to optimise full use of his time aligned to his priorities.
- Run the weekly pre-diary meetings with the outer office team and main diary meetings with Fleet Commander and team, flagging issues and problems with proposed solutions for resolution.
- Act as a focal point for all Fleet Commander’s communication.
- Ensure Fleet Commander has all relevant papers and briefing materials.
- Host Fleet Commander’s visitors.
- Arrange travel and accommodation for the Fleet Commander and when required the office area, including researching and analysing cost-effective transport and accommodation using Departmental Policy to select best Value for Money option.

- A proven track record of building and maintaining effective working relationships to deliver results.
- Use of MS products including Outlook, Word, One Note & Excel.
- Able to deliver communication to a high level both written and orally.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
