This is a new post, the post holder will be based on Baschurch Unit. The Job is to contact patients prior to their admission date to check they are fit for their surgery. This is done by asking pre-set questions. This call is vital in reducing on the day cancellations of surgery.

To telephone patients who are due in for surgery to see if they are still fit to proceed.

To telephone patients to check they still need the surgery they are scheduled for.

If patients are no longer fit for their surgery or no longer require the post holder will escalate appropriately.

The hospital is located on a site outside Oswestry in Oswestry, just off the A5. The nearest train station is in Gobowen, approximately two miles from the hospital. The station is part of the Chester to Birmingham line.

1. To work under supervision of the Registered Nurse, having received the appropriate training and being considered competent by the Registered Nurse, within the parameters of local policy.
2. To contact patients with agreed timescales prior to surgery to obtain information relating to pre-determined questions.
3. To have the ability to understand and undertake accurate recording of patient information, maintaining confidentiality and using hospital IT systems.
4. To communicate effectively with the Registered Nurse to escalate matters as defined by parameters of local policy to enable the reduction of avoidable cancellations on the day of surgery.
5. To provide a customer service role to patients, working within limitations of own experience and recognise when to seek advice from a registered practitioner.
6. To have the ability to demonstrate effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and relatives.
7. To report any damaged or faulty equipment to the Unit coordinator completing paperwork as necessary.
8. To understand the importance of correct procedure for reporting incidents/accidents relating to both staff and patients.
