Senior Clinical Psychologist - Part-time ( hours per week) - 12 month fixed term
Location: Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries, Oswestry
We are seeking an experienced senior clinical psychologist to join our existing, well-established team of psychologists at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing psychological rehabilitation in an acute medical setting for patients following spinal injuries. The role involves direct patient interaction, family engagement, and collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team.
The hours can be worked flexibly, including long days, evenings, or weekends. However, it would be ideal if some of the hours could be undertaken Mon-Fri so that there is overlap with the existing team of psychologists.
Main duties of the job
Key Opportunities
Provide psychological support for patients in an acute medical setting post-spinal cord injury Work flexibly and integrate within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) Opportunity to conduct group work, attend ward rounds, participate in goal planning meetings, and provide direct psychological interventions Work with a diverse range of clients, including those with neurodiversity and pre-existing mental health difficulties in the context of supporting them to cope following a life changing injury Opportunity to undertake cognitive testing where appropriate, but not mandatory Potential for the role to expand beyond the initial 12-month fixed termThis is an excellent opportunity for those who are passionate about rehabilitation and are considering a more permanent substantive role in the future. Band 7 candidates are welcome to consider this position as a secondment or as a means to explore a more senior role.

Job responsibilities
Service Development
Contributing, as required, to the strategic development of the psychological service.
Responsible for identifying needs, planning, delivering and monitoring psychological aspects of the services for spinal injury patients in liaison with the team staff.
Contributing to the development of psychology service policies.
Clinical supervision, teaching and training
Contributes to formal and informal training to staff regarding psychological aspects of working with adults with spinal injury.
Supervises trainee clinical psychologists on placement within the service, may provide supervision to Assistant Psychologist and / or Specialist Psychological Rehabilitation Practitioner.
Participates, as required, in teaching, training and presenting at strategic forums, annual conferences etc.
Attends relevant educational events, lectures workshops and meetings as appropriate to maintain CPD requirements.
Responsible for identifying, and discussing with line manager, own professional development training needs and seeking further training and specialist supervision where necessary.
Responsible for achieving and maintaining Trust, mandatory and statutory training requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
Desirable
Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
Experience
Essential
Experience of working effectively as a qualified clinical psychologist with children and / or adults with long-term health conditions. Therapeutic work with clients on adjustment to illness/injury
Desirable
Experience of working in an inpatient setting with people with spinal injuries.
