Oswestry Shropshire, United Kingdom North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust Full time

Senior Clinical Psychologist - Part-time (10.5 hours per week) - 12 month fixed term

Location: Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries, Oswestry

We are seeking an experienced senior clinical psychologist to join our existing, well-established team of psychologists at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing psychological rehabilitation in an acute medical setting for patients following spinal injuries. The role involves direct patient interaction, family engagement, and collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team.

The hours can be worked flexibly, including long days, evenings, or weekends. However, it would be ideal if some of the hours could be undertaken Mon-Fri so that there is overlap with the existing team of psychologists.

Main duties of the job

Key Opportunities

  • Provide psychological support for patients in an acute medical setting post-spinal cord injury
  • Work flexibly and integrate within the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Opportunity to conduct group work, attend ward rounds, participate in goal planning meetings, and provide direct psychological interventions
  • Work with a diverse range of clients, including those with neurodiversity and pre-existing mental health difficulties in the context of supporting them to cope following a life changing injury
  • Opportunity to undertake cognitive testing where appropriate, but not mandatory
  • Potential for the role to expand beyond the initial 12-month fixed term

This is an excellent opportunity for those who are passionate about rehabilitation and are considering a more permanent substantive role in the future. Band 7 candidates are welcome to consider this position as a secondment or as a means to explore a more senior role.
