The role
Fugro UK are looking for an Assistant Environmental Biologist to join our world class Benthic Laboratory team located at the Herriot Watt University campus. Tasked with preparing macrofauna samples for analysis and taking responsibility for the efficient sorting of samples. You will receive training in the identification of macrofauna and assist with general laboratory duties and ensure all actives are undertaken in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
- Assist with the preparation, sorting of macrofauna samples under the supervision of benthic laboratory staff following quality procedures and ensuring samples are processed in a timely manner.
- Develop general laboratory skills including maintenance, housekeeping, ordering supplies etc
- Ensure all activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner with the highest regard for Health and Safety and to the protection of the environment and prevention of pollution in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure that all work is undertaken to the highest quality and professional standards in accordance with company procedures and project specific documentation.
Who we’re looking for:
- A degree in a life or biological science
- Basic knowledge of marine taxonomy is desirable
- Computer literacy to include MS Word and Excel
- An ability to work to deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Able to work as part of a team
