We have the exciting opportunity for full-time and part-time Peer Support Workers to join our Northumberland Recovery College and HOPE Service.

**Purpose of the role**

The model for designing and delivering person-centred care, close to where people live, acknowledges the crucial role of smaller/micro grassroots and community organisations, in supporting some of the most disadvantaged and disconnected groups of citizens.

The Peer Support Workers will provide support to people with complex mental health needs, who are currently engaging with the HOPE (Helping Overcome Personal & Emotional Difficulties) service, to access Northumberland Recovery College (NRC) activities and other appropriate community projects through the VCSE Mental Health Alliance.

The post holder will ensure that our services are provided in a way that is consistent with our values, supporting and promoting an organisational culture that values: innovation, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence.

Please note that as the role will involve travelling across the region it is highly desirable that you hold a full driving license and have access to a car.

**Postholder Responsibilities**

**Key Responsibilities**
- To work closely with both the HOPE service and NRC to identify appropriate activities.
- Provide one-to-one and group support to help people engage in activities that support their wellbeing and recovery.
- Actively support individuals to find the activities and courses they feel will help their recovery.
- To support practical elements suggested by the clinical team e.g. putting into practice elements of WRAP plans, or graded exposure.
- To connect with individuals by phone before attending activities and maintaining contact through regular check-in calls to offer support when needed.
- The amount and intensity of this support will vary depending on the person’s needs, mental health, and life circumstances.
- Proactively promote Northumberland Recovery College to potential new students.
- Provide support to students who are new to the college.
- Support the running of online and face-to-face groups as needed.
- Deliver courses and activities.
- To provide in-the-moment support to help people manage their overall wellbeing in college activities as needed.
- Work in a culturally sensitive way for all students, challenging stigma and discrimination.
- Work with a range of needs and from a range of backgrounds and ethnicities.
- To contribute to the implementation and monitoring of all policies, procedures, and systems as agreed by Everyturn Mental Health as they relate to service delivery.
- Ensure that the needs of service users and their carers are at the core of the way we deliver services.

- Knowledge/experience and awareness of issues relating to mental health.
- Able to recognise and maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Able to work under pressure and possess a high level of emotional resilience.
- Able to work in partnership with others (colleagues within NRC and HOPE service, community groups, clients, families etc.)
- Able to work without direct supervision, using initiative.
- Able to recognise safeguarding issues.
- Willing to develop knowledge/skills, able to identify personal strengths and recognise opportunities for personal development.
- Able to express views, positively and constructively.
- Good written communication skills.
- Good, adaptable verbal communication skills.
- Good IT skills.
- Good organisation skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Able to travel to various locations across Northumberland.

**Desirable Requirements**

It would also be great if you have:

- Experience of working in a community-based setting.
- NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in Health and Social care.
- Driving licence and own transport.
