This post is covering a rotational vacancy on a fixed term basis of 6 months from 1st February 2023 until 1st August 2023, they will support the Senior Trainee rotation in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Trauma surgery will be undertaken during the weekend by the on call team and any outstanding trauma will be operated on weekday and weekend trauma lists which are staffed by Consultants and Senior Trainees. Where appropriate these patients will be followed up in the consultant’s clinic.

The on-call applies to all emergency orthopaedic admissions and to all patients attending the Emergency Department as emergencies during the on-call period and who subsequently require fracture clinic or orthopaedic clinic appointments as a result of their visit. The Consultants in the Emergency Department continue to supervise the management of many patients attending their department, at their own discretion.

There is close liaison between the Emergency Department and the Orthopaedic Department. There are daily trauma meetings. The Department runs a Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) where all suitable attendees at the Emergency Department have their injuries reviewed the following day by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon where a plan of care is formulated and communicated to the patient. This service was recently shortlisted for a Health Service Journal (HSJ) value award.
