An opportunity has arisen for a 12-month fixed term Fellow in Care of the Elderly Medicine with an interest in Orthogeriatrics.

This post is suitable for doctors with an aspiration for a career in Care of the Elderly and General Practitioners with a specialist interest in Care of the Elderly. We would like to appoint a highly motivated doctor with good team working skills and a desire for innovation. These skills are essential to the continued development of this role.

This post is aimed at Geriatric Medicine Trainees who are approaching or have completed specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and GPs with a special interest in Geriatric Medicine/Orthogeriatrics.

The post holder will lead the Orthogeriatric assessment and management of medical pathologies and the pre-operative optimisation and care of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. A structured timetable of activities will be provided under the supervision of Dr L.Garcia-Alen, Consultant Orthogeriatrician. The successful Fellow will be given active support with Quality Improvement Projects/Audit and clinical research and will be expected to present and publish this work as appropriate.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

The Department is supported by 6 Deanery ST3+ senior trainees, a trust grade doctor and 6 F2/GP/LED level posts. We also have 4 Advanced Care Practitioners who support the trauma and fractured NOF service.

FACILITIES

The Department has exclusive use of a purpose-built outpatient / Fracture Clinic with plaster room and surgical appliances within this facility. There is a screened 18 bedded arthroplasty ward and a separate ward for trauma and non-screened admissions. We enjoy exclusive access to 4 laminar flow theatres.
