We provide services for NHS CCGs, NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, and other providers of NHS funded services. We deliver over 125,000 patient interactions annually, including outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships.

**ROLE SUMMARY**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic governance lead who possesses excellent knowledge and leadership skills to join our team working at Newmedica.

The post holder will be involved with coordinating and leading the governance processes that exist within the service and support the management team on driving quality improvement at all levels. The post holder will be able to demonstrate successful leadership skills and will have previous governance experience in healthcare.

The post holder will form a pivotal part of the management team within the service, reporting directly to the Operational Director.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Audit activity. Ensuring robust systems are in place to monitor and to support individual services in ensuring audit compliance and to embed service improvements identified through the audit process.
- Attendance at local governance meetings, including minute taking and ensuring all the required documentation and agenda item is circulated in good time ahead of the monthly meetings.
- Providing robust challenge and support to ensure the service is providing clinical services in line with Newmedica policy and CQC fundamental standards as defined in legislation.
- Administration of clinical guidelines/policies, disseminating information across the OJV.
- Daily review and investigation of incidents and complaints for the service, working closely with teams across the service to ensure actions are put in place and learning applied.
- Produce regular reports from and respond to queries using RADAR (integrated Governance IT solution).
- Co-ordinate investigations and responses to incidents and complaints on behalf of the Governance Team and ensure appropriate risk assessments are undertaken and acted upon by the clinical management team and clinical staff.
- To support the service Clinical Director, Clinical Service Manager & Operational Director by providing clinical outcomes oversight and reporting.
- To participate in local operational and team meetings.
- Identify clinical risks and ensure that appropriate action is taken, in accordance with Newmedica’s Risk Management policy, providing expert advice and focusing on principles of a learning organisation.
- Utilise the Newmedica quality governance and risk management information system (RADAR) to identify, mitigate and manage risk/safety trends and recurring themes.
- Analyse, interpret and present data to highlight issues, risks and support decisions.
- Take responsibility for designated activity which may entail specific projects or audit work relating to quality governance, compliance, risk management activity or new policy development.
- To facilitate the sharing of lessons learnt and improvement from quality governance intelligence.
- To participate in the investigation and analysis of clinical and other safety related incidents and trend occurrence.
- Provide support to for local patient experience and engagement plans and activities
- Contribute to meeting CQC regulation standards including compilation of data and submissions and support staff in the preparation for site inspections.
- To provide help and support to a range of governance activities relating to Serious Incidents including Duty of Candour & being open, associated complaint handling, incident and risk management.
- Organise and facilitate meetings and take minutes as and when required.
- To lead the patient participation group process and quality improvement that transpires out of those forums.

**Staff Leadership**
- Engage with the Worcester Management Team, Operational & Clinical Partners and clinic teams as required to maintain robust corporate governance structures.
- Provide advice and support to clinic teams on the reporting, management and investigation of incidents and complaints, including Root Cause Analysis as required.
- Document competencies and assist in the development of ‘best’ practice guidelines for the service.

**Education & Training**
- To ensure staff receive an effective orientation and induction on governance elements.
- To provide advice on all types of queries from all staff.
