The Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship is a new and innovative route to ‘Learn while you Earn’ and combines 4 years of clinical employment, work based learning, and academic learning.

We are recruiting for a trust-wide Occupational Therapy apprentice role with the Community Neuro team. You will be employed as an Apprentice Occupational Therapist at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT). Occupational Therapists work within Community Hospitals, patients’ homes and rehabilitation groups to ensure effective discharge planning and a seamless stroke care. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic assessment of patients’ needs and help patients achieve maximum independence in daily living activities and improved well-being.

The multi-disciplinary team can assess for and provide suitable equipment and home adaptations to increase independence. Occupational Therapists assess & treat occupational performance of patients who may present with physical, sensory, cognition, perceptual, psychosocial impairments, and these could include functional and/or standardised assessments and outcome measures. Treatments could include upper limb & cognitive rehabilitation, minor adaptations, equipment provision. We give advice and information on issues relating to patient safety and self-management.

As an Occupational Therapy apprentice, you will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge, skills and experience during placements to a wide range of settings across the trust and be provided with dedicated time to study for a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy in conjunction with Canterbury Christchurch University (CCCU).
