Job description

**Hours: 37 **hours per week**

**Contract: Fixed term - 2 Years**

We have an exciting opportunity to contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of people in North Somerset. We’re looking for a talented Health and Wellbeing Officer to join our Health Improvement Team in the Public Health and Regulatory Services Directorate at North Somerset Council.

Operating in the Health Improvement team, you will work alongside a team of managers, officers and internal and external partners to support and ensure delivery of North Somerset’s joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2021-2024 and to influence a range of decisions and activities that impact on health and wellbeing at a population level.

You will have specific responsibility for project managing delivery of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2021-2024 and contributing to delivery of interventions outlined in the linked action plan. You will monitor and report on progress in implementing the strategy and action plan and will support commissioning, grant programmes and delivery of interventions across priority workstreams. You will also play a role in supporting communities to be healthy and sustainable by taking a health in all policies approach, providing expert advice and working with a range of colleagues and partners to ensure that health is considered in all aspects of policymaking and local authority functions and processes.

**About you**

You will support the Public Health Team in achieving core public health objectives - namely improving health and reducing health inequalities, protecting and improving health, and contributing to the quality of local public health services. This will be evidenced by your commitment to addressing inequalities in health and wellbeing.

You will have experience in project and programme management, including establishing processes and planning and implementing complex projects and activities, problem solving and adapting plans when challenges arise. You will have an excellent understanding of public health theory and practice and a comprehensive knowledge of public health evidence relating to local authority functions, such as the climate emergency, planning, and transport interventions. You will be able to review, critically analyse, and translate research findings into recommendations, communicating effectively with a range of audiences. Your good negotiating and influencing skills will contribute to the development, project management, promotion and implementation of strategic plans to improve health and wellbeing in the North Somerset population.

**Why North Somerset Council?**

You will play a vital role at North Somerset Council, ensuring that, as a Council and place, we are delivering efficient, equitable and effective services and support to the people of North Somerset. In return, we'll help you to achieve a healthy work-life balance through generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, flexible, hybrid and matrix working arrangements, and a supportive and collaborative management structure. Our new system of agile working means that although your work base will be Castlewood, Clevedon, you will also be able to work from home.

In addition, you will be working in a supportive environment where you will have the chance to make North Somerset a healthier, happier and fairer place to live.
