**JOB SUMMARY**:
Aim of the role

The Head of Midwifery holds an important professional role for the delivery of maternity services locally, providing strong and inspirational leadership to help influence and change the development of Maternity services, both in the community and the hospital.

The Head of Midwifery will provide effective, visible clinical and professional leadership for midwifery staff in the division for which they are responsible. The post-holder will be responsible for leading teams of cross-site/locality services and will therefore be expected to be work across sites.

As a Head of Midwifery on the Royal Free Hospital site, you will be reporting to the Divisional Director, working closely with the Group Director of Midwifery and the Royal free site Head of Midwifery, working in partnership with the Divisional Management Team, Clinical Director and Clinical Leads on both sites.

You will be a key member of our speciality management team providing operational and clinical leadership to ensure the women, pregnant people and staff are safe, cared for and listened to.

The post-holder will be responsible for assuring professional standards and practice in all aspects of midwifery care is achieved within the Trust, including adhering to statutory regulations to deliver excellent patient care.

To develop, facilitate and implement appropriate training and development programmes for midwives and support staff that enhance practice and care whilst meeting Trust objectives and Government initiatives.

To line manage Matrons within the Maternity services. The post holder is responsible and accountable for implementation of robust systems and processes that ensure there is a continuing improvement in the quality and safety of the service provided to women and their babies/patients.

The post holder is responsible for driving change for the benefit of both women and their families and the staff who provide this care.

The Head of Midwifery is accountable for the delivery of midwifery services within their allocated site. This includes fiscal responsibility for the midwifery budgets.

The post-holder on occasions will deputise for the Group Director of Midwifery to ensure Trust wide compliance and delivery of the patient safety, clinical effectiveness, and patient experience agenda for maternity services.

The post holder will work collaboratively across all sites with their Head of Midwifery counterpart, divisional senior team and corporate teams to enhance the staff and user experience.

The post holder will participate in the midwifery manager on-call rota.

The post holder will spend at least 10% of time in clinical practice.
