Description About the team Case Preparation and Presentation (CPP) is a multidisciplinary team mainly responsible for preparing and presenting case to answer cases referred to the Fitness to Practise Committee for fair and timely conclusions. About the role The NMCs largest team of lawyers and paralegals prides itself on its collegiate and supportive environment. Lawyers are supported by a head and senior lawyers who provide technical supervision and support with professional development. Our lawyers review and prepare fitness to practise cases as well as conducting advocacy in substantive and non-substantive hearings before our practice committees. In addition, they prepare and present High Court interim order extension applications covering the UKs jurisdictions as well as having the opportunity to advise on PSA and registrant appeals filed in the High Court. About you You will be a lawyer who may already have experience of regulatory law (but if not, you should demonstrate an interest in this area) and who will be committed to helping us to deliver good quality adjudication outcomes for registrants referred to the NMC in a non-adversarial and person-centred way. You will be an excellent communicator, whether that be in oral, written or presentation form. You will also have a high level of attention to detail and will have the ability to quality assure your own work with minimal supervision. Skills and experience required Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive). Holder of a UK Practising Certificate/eligible to obtain a UK Practising Certificate. Proven experience of providing consistently accurate and appropriate legal advice. Experience of working in a politically sensitive environment and/or dealing with high profile, sensitive issues. Excellent oral, written and presentation skills. Collaborative approach when working with other internal teams. Person-centred approach to daily work, including showing respect to all, listening and sensitively managing vulnerable individuals. Remain calm under pressure with the ability to work flexibly to meet changing demands and embrace new strategic initiatives. Experience of appearing as an advocate before tribunals/Courts (desirable). The role you are applying for is a flexible role, and whilst you will be posted initially to a team, this may require movement between teams as the flow of work dictates. You will of course understand that this flexible approach enables us to provide the best possible service to our registrants and reach the outcomes to our cases quickly and within a reasonable timeframe. This will not change your terms and conditions and will be discussed with you prior to you taking up the post.
Up to Band 5:
Due to the nature of your role and the work undertaken by the NMC, on very rare occasions you may be required by the NMC or the Courts to assist in litigation proceedings or inquests. This may involve collating information, providing a witness statement, or giving oral evidence on behalf of the NMC. Our Pay Policy
It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.
