**Background**

The University has an exciting vision to build on the success of REF2021, by continuing to transform its research performance across outputs, income, impact, and policy influence. Central to this ambition is the Research Strategy & Services Division (RSSD), a new Professional Services department that is being established to provide a transformative and sector-leading approach to research strategy and support.

**Role Summary**

The REGIC will play an essential role in administering the University processes managed by the REGI. These include the University’s sponsorship review by which the University decides which projects to sponsor in line with the Department of Health Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, and then exercises oversight of the portfolio in line with agreed risk management processes.

The post holder will be the first port of call for researchers requiring UoB Sponsorship, and so must have strong customer service skills and the ability to explain what researchers (staff and students at all stages of their career) need to do in order to engage with regulatory, NHS and University processes.

**Main Duties**
- Act as first point of call for enquiries relating to research ethics/governance, handling queries, risk assessing and triaging them as appropriate. This will require sound understanding of research ethics and governance issues, in order to appropriately prioritise and allocate incoming queries, which at times will involve engaging with high profile internal and external contacts to obtain or provide information on processes and progress of projects sponsored by the University. It will also involve communicating clearly with various stakeholders (including regulators, NHS colleagues, academics and students) using appropriate communication styles and adapting them as necessary.
- Take responsibility for managing the REGI’s shared mailboxes. This will require establishment and operation of a range of complex administrative systems and processes to ensure that essential regulatory documentation is dealt with in a timely and quality assured manner and that more senior team members are involved as appropriate.
- Review the researcher’s Annual Progress Reports and other study related documentation and assess research studies’ suitability for continued University Sponsorship ensuring ongoing oversight of sponsored research.
- Liaise with College/Schools and University Insurance Officer to ensure that all requirements for insurance are met for allocated clinical trials and review document
