Are you looking for an opportunity to be at the cutting edge of Research? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Governance Officer to join the Research & Development Data Governance Team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will help deliver the Trusts process for approving and overseeing research under the Department of Health Research Governance Framework; providing expert advice in relation to research governance issues and review, draft and amend as required a wide range of agreements connected to research carried out at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, in accordance with legislation, Research Frameworks, Trust policy and professional standards, including but not limited to commercial research.

Previous experience in working within research or information governance is advantageous. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, proactive individual with sound knowledge of Common law of Confidentiality, Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Main duties of the job

*Devise, review and contribute to policies and procedures regarding IG-Research issues.

*Provide expert advice and review research studies as per relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) on behalf of UHB against key legislation that relates to research, including but not restricted to the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care, Data Protection Act other applicable Acts.

*Support with carrying out risk assessments for research studies and assist with implementing mitigating actions or escalating as required.

*Co-ordinate and assist in the investigation of any incident pertaining to breaches of standards in IG-Research culminating in an incident investigation report.

*Attend relevant Trust and external meetings on behalf of the Research Governance Manager, produce plans, update action, take minutes (when required) and to communicate any progress to Research Governance Manager.

*Identify, draft and review the appropriate type of contract required for research related activities confidentiality agreements/ Non disclosure agreements, data sharing, data processing and model research agreements.

*Line management responsibilities for Research Governance Assistants and junior administrative members of the team.

Essential

*Degree or equivalent knowledge, training or experience through any combination of alternative study, employment, or voluntary work. OR *Healthcare/Science based A levels plus evidence of continuing professional development to degree level.

*Appropriate professional qualification or knowledge of legal procedures and contracts gained through experience

*Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the EU clinical trials directive *Knowledge of Common law of Confidentiality, Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. *Experience of report writing and managing/ analysing complex data.

Desirable

*In-depth understanding of clinical research and trial management methodology, including applicable regulatory requirements. *Significant Operational management experience working within a NHS environment working with clinicians and other health care professionals at all levels of the organisation *Writing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) *HR -- day to day supervision/management of staff and delivers training on a range of subjects. *Information Governance or Research Governance experience. *Contract experience.
